Anglistics Study Programme Reading sample I Q: What are the main ideas proposed in the article? (be specific) Even though the COVID-19 outbreak is easing in some countries, the prospect of a normal summer holiday this year is looking uncertain for many. In several EU countries, borders are shut — allowing people to cross only if they have an important reason — travel restrictions have been introduced and international travel is discouraged. This year will not be good for the global travel industry, which is expecting losses of between 20 and 30 per cent, according to estimates by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). "Such travel restrictions will additionally damage the already weakened economies of Europe’s southern countries, such as Spain or Italy, because they rely on tourism more heavily than the northern countries, " the study notes. But as countries start to reopen their borders, this policy might be the way forward to "save the summer tourism season in southern Europe", the authors of the study said: "If well communicated and with sufficient guarantees, this proposal could save the summer tourist season in southern Europe, thus mitigating the enormous economic costs that the closure to international tourism could cause for these countries. Anglistics Study Programme Reading sample II Q: What are the main ideas proposed in the article? (be specific) One of the U. K. ’s top universities is moving all face-to-face lectures online for the coming academic year because social distancing measures will probably remain in place for the foreseeable future. Cambridge University, which traces its history back more than 800 years, said that it may be possible to host smaller groups in person, as long as they conform to requirements around social distancing. “This decision has been taken now to facilitate planning, but as ever, will be reviewed should there be changes to official advice on coronavirus, ” a Cambridge university spokesperson said in an email. University campuses have been closed this term by the Covid-19 pandemic. Oxford University said it plans to remain open to all students in the 2020/2021 academic year and that it will continue to adjust to government updates

Anglistics Study Programme Reading sample III Q: What are the main ideas proposed in the article? (be specific and detailed) Today, we’re talking about America failing to keep its promises to itself about being the land of the free by examining once again this awful legacy of racism and brutality in policing. Sadly, this is just one example of America failing its own people. Black Americans are more likely to be unemployed, and those who do have jobs earn less than their white peers and are more likely to work in jobs only now deemed “essential” that expose them to serious health risks. Black Americans are dying from COVID-19 at disproportionate rates, but even before the pandemic hit, our health outcomes were not good: we have the highest maternal mortality rates and are more likely to have diabetes and high blood pressure. We also have a poverty rate more than double that of white Americans. (taken from Time)

Anglistics Study Programme Reading sample IV (Quizizz) Q: What are the main ideas proposed

Anglistics Study Programme Reading sample IV (Quizizz) Q: What are the main ideas proposed in the article? (be specific and detailed) While in the eyes of the law there is a bright line that distinguishes maturity based on the age, whereby those persons aged 18 years and older are adults who may make decisions on their own, the analysis for surgical providers to these individuals is not so simple. Because the benefits of cosmetic surgery are much more difficult to perceive than with other functional operations, ethical concerns abound. When teens and young adults are considering aesthetic surgery, practitioners must particularly consider both the psychological and physical maturity of young patients seeking cosmetic procedures. Particularly, does the individual possess the intellectual maturity to understand appreciate what is involved in the procedure(s), as well as the risks that are inherent in both the surgery and the anesthesia that is administered? For example, most women have at least one serious complication within the first 3 years of breast augmentation, including infection, hematomas and seromas, capsular contracture, loss of nipple sensation, and hypertrophic scarring. In addition, breast implants interfere with mammography and increase the likelihood of insufficient lactation when a woman tries to breast-feed (Zuckerman, Anisha, & Abraham, 2008). Notwithstanding complications, breast implants typically last 10 years, subjecting the augmented adolescent to repeated surgeries throughout her lifetime (Institute of Medicine, 1999).
