In French, a sentence in the passive voice follows this structure: être + participe passé (+ par… ) Le chien est promené par le petit garçon.
The verb être can be conjugated in any tense such as présent, passé composé, imparfait, and futur. être + Présent Passé composé Imparfait Futur proche Futur simple participe passé (+ par… )
The participe passé becomes an adjective and must match the gender (feminine or masculine) and number (singular or plural) of the noun receiving the action. être + participe passé (+ par… ) Présent Passé composé Imparfait Futur proche Futur simple Masculin + singulier Masculin + pluriel Féminin + singulier Féminin + pluriel
Sometimes in French as in English, the word par (by) is omitted. In French, it happens when the subject is a pronoun: On distribue la nourriture. La nourriture est distribuée.
