Detailing • Detailing Process (per the Pit Boss) 1. 12 mos. from PRD: billets advertised on e. SUPPO/NPC website 2. 8 -12 mos. from PRD: email preferences to Pit Boss via spreadsheet in priority order (+/- 3 mos. of PRD) 3. ~11 -12 mos. out: slating begins… 2 -3 weeks for a decision • Your name goes on only 1 slate at a time and multiple slates can be out simultaneously…(prioritize preferences carefully) • Networking – Mentors and advocates play a HUGE role – Gatekeepers – ask the Pit Boss for POC info 12

Detailing • Detailing Process (lessons learned from recent victims) 1. Research billets that align with your preferences and PRD (career needs, family, location, etc. ). DO THIS NOW • • FLTMPS, SC Directory, networking, etc. Engage mentors early and often 2. Reach out to Gatekeepers to confirm opening/express interest • • Find out timeline for picking their slate to aid in preference sheets Usually includes phone interview 3. Engage mentors to “vouch for/recommend” you. *****Ensure they include the Gatekeeper AND Decision-Maker on correspondence. ***** 4. Submit preference sheet to Pit Boss and await confirmation 13

Detailing • Things to remember – Not all billet openings make it on the published billet list (WSS-P…). – Some billets have cert/AQD/command preference requirements that aren’t listed on the billet list. Ensure you’re eligible before wasting your time. – You are competing for billets with classmates, as well as regular O-4 summer rollers, 810 grads, etc. – Not enough coded billets for all graduates. – Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. Be proactive. – Gatekeepers may be the senior SC Officer at the command or he/she may delegate. Know who is making decisions. – Can feel like a meat market. You either detail yourself or you get detailed 14
