School Fees • School package notes have been sent home • Included in the school package is the cost of the Life Education program, Seesaw and Wushka. • Please help out the school and have the school package fee paid promptly. • Additional costs will be incurred for any school based excursions.
Health Care Plans/Absences • Any health care plan or change of health care plan needs to be forwarded to the office ASAP. The information in your child’s health care plan/s will be relayed to staff members. • Absent notes are required on the first day back following an absence. • Any extended leave needs to be documented at the office.
L 3/TEN • L 3 = Language, Learning and Literacy • TEN = Targeted Early Numeracy • Carried out in all K-2 classrooms. • Small groups with explicit instruction. • Excellent way of differentiating the curriculum so all students are working at their level.

Additional Programs SPORT Stage 1 - Year 1 Monday /Friday Year 2 Thursday/Friday Students will require a water bottle, hat, sunscreen, sport shoes, sunscreen (home). Need to wear sports uniform. LIBRARY Each class has a different day for library. Check with your child’s class teacher. SCRIPTURE Classes are held on Thursday each week.

EAL/D-English as an Additional Language or Dialect • Approximately 94% of our students are from Non-English speaking backgrounds. (NESB) • In our school alone we have over 40 languages represented. • Top 5 languages: Tamil, Hindi, Gujarati, Telugu and Punjabi.
The EAL/D teacher Role • Support within the classroom. • Focus on speaking and listening. • Provide students with opportunities to build on their current knowledge or build new knowledge of the English language. • Use a variety of language based speaking and listening activities that focus on grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure. • Provide language experiences to assist students in their reading and writing.

Community Language Aim As per the syllabus, the main focus on community language lessons is for: • Developing confidence to utilise the community language in verbal exchange • Demonstrate the importance of culture and heritage • Making connections between community language and Australia
Community Language Administration Two hours per week First hour: Core language lesson Second hour: Team teaching with classroom teacher Units covered in Term 1: Me Myself and I : Year 2 Body parts and clothing: Year 3 My school and I: Year 4
Why learn a new language? Scientific study proves that students with multilingual abilities proves that there is increase ability in retaining vocabulary and comprehension. ● Clyne et al. (1995) demonstrated that little as one hour exposure to a second language advances reading readiness ● Yelland et al. (1993) showed that there was higher level of word awareness
