Livio De Marchi nasceu em Veneza, Itália, onde, ainda criança, trabalhou em escultura ornamental na tradição veneziana na oficina de um artesão, e estudou Arte e Desenho na “Accademia di Belle Arti” em Veneza. Sua carreira começa lá, mostrando ao mesmo tempo uma habilidade surpreendente em materiais de moldagem, transformando-os com humor e criando esculturas com perfeição de detalhes e espontaneidade. Durante a sua evolução artística, começou a trabalhar com mármore. Logo migrou para o bronze, antes de finalmente se decidir pela madeira como seu meio preferido, por sua versatilidade.

As ferramentas com que Livio trabalha são bastante simples: uma centena de variedades de cinzéis datados de 1964, um martelo velho e uma mão firme. O único fator de distinção entre o real e a madeira é que ele não pinta nenhuma de suas criações, porque acredita que os grãos e nós da madeira clara são muito intrigantes. O artista veneziano esculpe réplicas fascinantes e extremamente realistas de objetos do cotidiano, transformando-os em verdadeiras obras de Arte. Uma das obras mais notáveis de Livio é a Casa de Livros, que ele construiu em 1990, em Tambre D’Alpago, Itália. Seu objetivo final é a criação de 10 dessas estruturas em todo o mundo, dos quais esta foi a primeira e a que lhe rendeu fama e popularidade. Literalmente tudo dentro e fora da casa é feito de madeira, desde as estantes até os livros nas prateleiras. As mesas, pratos, talheres, toalhas de mesa, sofás e almofadas, as roupas no guardaroupa são todos de madeira. Livio ama a criação de objetos de fantasia e outra criação notável é “Um sonho em Veneza”, feito em 1994, é uma carruagem de abóbora puxada por quatro cavalos, lógico, de madeira, bem como a Cinderela, que desliza ao longo das águas dos canais venezianos. Não é a única; a sua matriz de esculturas flutuantes incluem réplicas de famosos carros antigos, como um Mercedes que ele criou em 1997 e um Fusca em 1999. Biography: Livio de Marchi was born in Venice, Italy, where, since childhood, he worked in ornamental sculpture in Venetian tradition at the workshop of a craftsman and studied Art and Drawing at the “Accademia di Belle Arti”, in Venice. His career starts there, displaying at the same time an astonishing skill in molding materials, changing them with humor, and creating sculptures with perfection of details and spontaneity. During his artistic evolution, he began to work in marble. Soon he migrated to bronze, before deciding at last for wood, as his preferred medium for its versatility. The tools that Livio uses are simple: about 100 different chisels dated 1964, an old hammer and a steady hand. The only distinguishing factor betweeen the real and the wood is that he does not paint any of his creations because he believes that the grains and the light wood knurls are very intriguing. The Venetian artist carves fascinating and extremely realistic replicas of everyday objects, changing them into a real work of Art. One of the most notables works of Livio is the House of Books, which he built in 1990, in Tambre D'Alpago, Italy. His objective point is to create 10 of these structures throughout the world; this was the first one and brought him fame and popularity. Literally everything at the inside and outside of the house is wood-made: from the bookcases to the books in them. The tables, dishes, cutlery, tablecloths, cushions and sofa, cloths in the wardrobe are all made of wood. Livio loves creating objects of fantasy and another remarkable creation is “A Dream in Venice”, made in 1994. It is a pumpkin coach, drawn by four horses, surely, of wood, as well as the Cinderella, who glides along the waters of the Venetian canals. This is not the only one: his matrix floating sculptures include replicas of famous old cars, as a Mercedes, which he created in 1997, and a Fusca in 1999. Livio’s works were exhibited in Art exhibitions in several cities around the world, including London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Zurich, Milan and Florence.
