FCCLA’s Mission To promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communications, practical knowledge, and career preparation.

To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community. 4. To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony. 5. To promote greater understanding between youth and adults. 6. To provide opportunities for making decisions and for assuming responsibilities. 7. To prepare for the multiple roles of men and women in today’s society. 8. To promote Family and Consumer Sciences education and related occupations.

Who is eligible to be a member? Any student who is taking or has

Who is eligible to be a member? Any student who is taking or has taken a course in Family and Consumer Sciences, or acceptable course as determined by the state Department of Education (middle school through grade 12), is eligible for active membership in an organized chapter within their school. Once the state and national dues are paid, the student will be an official affiliated member. Affiliated members are eligible to hold office, make motions, and vote. Affiliated members can expect to receive Teen Times magazine, a membership card, and all the privileges that come with being a member of the only Career and Technical Student Organization with family as its central focus.

Remember, they must have taken, or be currently enrolled in, a Family and Consumer Sciences course or a related course as determined by the state department of education. 2. Collect membership dues and affiliate at state and national levels. You must be affiliated in order to use the FCCLA name. 3. Identify chapter leaders. Hold an election of officers for your chapter. Use FCCLA…The Handbook to Ultimate Leadership and The Ultimate Officer Handbook & Training Manual for more information on how to effectively choose chapter officers. 4. Train members to promote the “ 3 R’s” of membership—Recruit, Retain, and Recognize. Carry out a variety of the “ 3 R’s” to suit your chapter’s and school’s needs. 5. Report results and apply for recognition at the state and national level. 6. Enjoy the rewards of a stronger chapter.

The national programs encourage members to enhance their personal growth and leadership development skills. As students plan projects and execute ideas, they experience the satisfaction of making a difference in their own lives, their families, their schools, and their communities.

In conjunction with the Career Connection national program, Leaders at Work recognizes FCCLA members who create projects to strengthen leadership skills on the job.

Families First A national peer education program through which students gain a better understanding

Families First A national peer education program through which students gain a better understanding of how families work and learn skills to become strong family members. In conjunction with Families First, Japanese Exchange is a scholarship opportunity for FCCLA members to travel to Japan for four-tosix weeks as an exchange student. This scholarship is funded by the Kikkoman Corporation and administered by Youth For Understanding-USA. Scholarships are worth more than $6, 995 each.

Membership Achievement Awards Be recognized for your recruitment success! This recognition program accounts for diversity—all chapters that affiliate with their state and national headquarters by March 1 are eligible for recognition in one or more of the following categories. FCCLA Members FCCLA Advisers Recognizes current FCCLA members who must recruit at least three new members who affiliate at the state and national level. Recognizes chapter advisers using the FCCLA Planning Process. Chapter advisers must demonstrate how one national program was used to incorporate the 3 R’s of membership. FCCLA Chapters Recognizes chapters that affiliate on the state and national level 100% of those students enrolled in the adviser’s own FACS classes at your school. State Association Recognizes three states who will be awarded for excellent participation at the national level. States receiving this award will have the highest participation in individual and chapter program award applications, scholarship applications, adult and adviser awards, and new chapters.
