What is concurrent enrollment Concurrent Enrollment allows K-12 students the opportunity to take college courses, either by taking a class offered at the high school, on a college campus or online. Can I get high school credit for graduation? Yes, for courses noted on the LAUSD Bulletin. You academic counselor must approve the K 12 form for these courses. Work closely with your academic counselor to select the right course a course taken by mistake may not be meet high school requirements. Can I take college courses make me competitive (qualified) for university applications? Yes, courses labeled UC/CSU transferrable demonstrate to universities you are “college ready” and have the potential to succeed at a college level. Try to earn A’s to be most competitive. During the application season 8 honors points may be applied to your GPA. , bonus! To truly be College Ready take College Level English & Math. Can I earn college credit too? Yes, UC/CSU courses you complete with a C or better satisfy lower-division/general-education course requirements. You will not need to repeat these courses when you attend college. Make sure you are following a transfer plan and not taking courses randomly. Once you satisfy a section on you course plan you may not earn additional transferrable credit in that section. Remember the term IGETC!

COLLEGE POLICIES: All college courses are independent from Fairfax High School and students are to abide by the community college student policies. Attendance is mandatory on the days the course meets. Please direct any course concerns with the college professor. All grade are final and part of your permanent record. You may be place on academic probation if you receive marks of D, F, W or IP You may be denied financial aid in the future due to poor academic standing. You should repeat unsatisfactory courses the semester immediately after completing the course. FEES: Although these are tuition free courses students are financially responsible for books and materials.

Students may earn 10 A- G approved Foreign Language high school credits. HEALTH 011 PRINCIPLES OF HEALTHFUL LIVING (UC/ CSU Transferable) is a 3 Unit College Course held T & TH from 3: 30 pm - 5: 00 pm. Students may earn 5 Health high school credits. CHICANO 007 THE MEXICAN AMERICAN IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES I (UC/CSU Transferable) is a 3 Unit College Course held M & W from 3: 30 pm - 5: 00 pm. Students may earn 10 A- G approved high school credits. MUSIC 725 COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA (UC/CSU Transferable) is a 1 Unit College Course held T & TH from 3: 30 pm - 5: 00 pm. Students will learn how to play a musical instrument and earn university credit. NO PREVIOUS MUSIC EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. When applying to college senior year student will be given college credit and a gpa boost on the university application. 5

How can I find out what courses are being offered? Semesters: Colleges usually offer 6 independent semesters. Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer 1. Summer 2 Ideally you do not want to take more than 2 courses per semester. How can I find the course offerings: Community colleges will print a schedule each semester. Schedules may be found on the college website. Remember to write own the name and section number of the course. Courses offered at the high schools will be announced at each high school.

Complete the application Step 1: Create an account at CCCApply. edu, take a picture of the account confirmation Step 2: Apply for the community college you plan to attend. A single application will allow you to enroll into any of the 9 LA Community College District Colleges (not SMC). Take a picture of your application submission Complete the K-12 Form Complete the K-12 form, use your pictures to add the confirmation numbers. Make sure the application has the appropriate signatures and the course(s) are clearly noted. Add the section number for courses taken off the Fairfax High School campus. Submitting the K-12 Form If the course will be at FHS submit the form to Ms. Morales. The forms will be submitted in a single class batch to LACC. If the course will be taken on campus/online submit the course to FHS for counselor signatures. Pick up the form and submit it to the college’s admissions office 8
