WHAT IS DUAL ENROLLMENT? Dual enrollment allows high school students (9 th-12 th grade)

WHAT IS DUAL ENROLLMENT? Dual enrollment allows high school students (9 th-12 th grade) to earn college credit while working on their high school diploma. There are more than 200, 000 courses currently on the approved course list which will help to increase college access, college completion and career readiness (GAfutures. org). Students can enroll in DE courses for a maximum 15 hours per semester or 12 hours per quarter.

WHAT IS DUAL ENROLLMENT? Increases exposure to college-level classes while still in high school Allows students with specific goals (academic or career) greater flexibility to attain those goals May provide an easier transition from high school to college Reduced costs to the student and/or families: covers tuition, mandatory fees, and required textbooks (professor recommended books may not be covered) Students receive both high school and post-secondary credit at the same time (i. e. some will be eligible to earn an Associate’s degree, technical diploma or two certificates in one specific career pathway).

Are you able to communicate with your teachers/instructors, independently of your parents? Are you proactive in keeping up with school events/activities? Are you able to maintain positive academic behavior while involved in extracurricular activities?

CRITERIA FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT • 3. 0 GPA (Academic Classes ONLY) (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Language) • Review the Dual Enrollment procedures and responsibilities sheet from GAFUTURES. org • Research the Dual Enrollment process for the college you want to attend. Most students in HCS attend Gordon, Clayton State, or Southern Crescent • Register to take the ACT/SAT or Accuplacer Test (Some colleges will allow you to take the Accuplacer in place of the SAT/ACT • Apply to the college of your choice- Complete the application, submit your official HS transcript, have your SAT/ACT or Accuplacer scores submitted to the college.
