North. Star® Herbicide from Syngenta Crop Protection Important: Always read and follow label instructions before buying or using this product.
About North. Star • North. Star® is an ideal post-emergence herbicide solution for controlling large-seeded broadleaf weeds and grasses including shattercane, Johnsongrass and quackgrass. • When North. Star and glyphosate are tank mixed for use in glyphosatetolerant corn, growers can achieve improved control of difficult-tocontrol weeds such as morningglory, giant ragweed, velvetleaf, waterhemp and lambsquarters. • As the number of weed biotypes showing tolerance or resistance to glyphosate increases, using glyphosate alone may no longer be effective for controlling many broadleaf weeds. • By tank mixing North. Star with glyphosate, growers will have multiple modes of action to combat tough weeds and manage against resistant weeds. Important: Always read and follow label instructions before buying or using this product.
Key Benefits • Controls tough broadleaf weeds that glyphosate alone is weak on, including morningglory, giant ragweed, velvetleaf, waterhemp and lambsquarters. • Two modes of action make North. Star ideal when weed biotypes resistant or tolerant to glyphosate, ALS-inhibiting and triazine herbicides are present. • High value – superior weed control spectrum at a competitive cost. Resistance Fighter™ from Syngenta Crop Protection
Current Glyphosate Weed Resistance 6 broadleaf weed species, 3 grass species
Survey results: over 5, 000 growers report glyphosate weed resistance on their farm (single or multiple weeds) Source: Farm Progress Data 2007
Cost of Resistance ● If growers have several resistant weed species, they could expect herbicide costs to double just to manage weeds ● Bill Johnson, extension weed scientist with Purdue University, along with his colleagues, studied a field in Indiana with glyphosate-resistant giant ragweed and marestail, and tolerant lambsquarters - The grower’s annual herbicide inputs skyrocketed from $19 per acre to $37 per acre due to glyphosate resistance ● Recent studies found that losses in U. S. crops due to any uncontrolled weeds, resistant or not, exceed $7. 5 billion annually ● With the heavy economic weight that weeds have on fields, it is hard to imagine the cost that wider spread herbicide resistance will bring
Midwest Giant Ragweed Field history (above) ● Lumax® herbicide followed by glyphosate Field history (right) ● Glyphosate only Important: Always read and follow label instructions before buying or using this product. Lumax is a Restricted Use Pesticide.

The Quilt Xcel Yield Advantage ● In the trial below, an application of Quilt Xcel (10. 5 oz/A) at R 1 outperformed Headline Amp ™ Bushels/A by 2 bushels per acre and Stratego® by 7 bushels per acre on corn. As the graph shows, there was a 13 bushel increase in Quilt Xcel-treated acres when compared against untreated acres. All treatments included 0. 25% NIS; R 1 application; Source: University of Nebraska, 2009.
Effect of Fungicide Application on Income of Corn Over Control Treatments Fungicides were applied at tasseling (July 20) to rotated corn (DK 61 -69) planted May 5. Harvest was October 13 and yields ranged from 1. 5 bpa less to 15 bpa greater than the control (dns). Calculating the increase in gross income ($3. 71 bu) less drying cost (0. 03/point over 15%) over the control varied between treatments but does not include the cost of the product and application. Source: Eric Adee & Marty Johnson. Northwestern Illinois Agriculture Research and Demonstration Center. November/December 2009 Newsletter (Volume 28: 9).
Comparison Photos Quilt Xcel Untreated Quilt Xcel (10. 5 oz/acre) with NIS was applied aerially at the R 2 growth stage. This was irrigated corn and the primary disease in this field was Southern corn rust. Arkansas, 2009
Comparison Photos Quilt Xcel Headline Untreated ● The applications were made at R 1 by ground of Quilt Xcel (10. 5 oz/acre) vs. 6. 0 oz/acre of Headline® against an untreated check. Indiana, 2009
Plant Performance Benefits Quilt Xcel helps boost yield through enhanced Plant Performance with four key attributes: - Broad-spectrum disease control - Improved CO 2 assimilation allows plants to use the sun’s energy more efficiently for greater growth - Increased water use efficiency slows transpiration to help the plant retain water, which improves drought tolerance - Enhanced green leaf area maximizes growth and yield development

Quadris Fungicide from Syngenta Crop Protection Important: Always read and follow label instructions before buying or using this product.
About Earlier Application Timing ● An application of Quadris® fungicide can be made at the V 5 growth stage in corn. ● In trials, yields were increased with a V 5 application of Quadris over an untreated check. ● When the V 5 treatment was followed by a second application of Quilt® or Quilt Xcel™ fungicides at R 1, an incremental yield increase was achieved. Quilt Xcel is not currently registered for sale or use in all states. Please check with your state or local extension service before buying or using this product.
Why an Earlier Application Timing? • Early-season applications of Quadris allow for preventive disease control and enhanced Plant Performance™ while the corn leaf and ear shoots are being determined. • The xylem mobile aspects of Quadris will help protect new growth during the vegetative stages. • Quadris applications at V 5 can be tank mixed with glyphosate herbicides such as Touchdown® brands to maximize application efficiencies. Quilt Xcel is not currently registered for sale or use in all states. Please check with your state or local extension service before buying or using this product.
V 5 Fungicide Application Recommendations ● Syngenta recommends an application of Quadris fungicide at 6 oz/A applied during the V 5 growth stage. ● The V 5 application may be followed by Quilt at 14 oz/A or Quilt Xcel at 10. 5 oz/A at the R 1 growth stage. Untreated Quadris at V 5 followed by Quilt at R 1 Quilt Xcel is not currently registered for sale or use in all states. Please check with your state or local extension service before buying or using this product.
Benefits of V 5 Fungicide Applications ● Provides broad-spectrum residual disease control and Plant Performance while the corn plant is determining leaf and ear shoots ● Offers application flexibility and early-season preventive disease control and Plant Performance ● Provides plant protection with the excellent xylem-mobile, systemic activity of the Quadris X-Factor™
How the X-Factor Works ● The Quadris X-Factor refers to the xylem mobility of the active ingredient azoxystrobin. The active ingredient moves with water in the xylem of the plant to maximize disease control, including protecting new plant growth. ● Azoxystrobin, the active ingredient in Quadris, moves diffusively from top to bottom or bottom to top. This is called translaminar movement. ● Once azoxystrobin gets into the leaf tissue it will also move in the vascular system (the xylem). ● In the xylem, azoxystrobin moves upward toward the tip of the leaf (systemic movement).
The X-Factor This photo visually demonstrates the biological relevance of the X-Factor (systemic mobility). In this trial, all fungicides were applied to the fifth emerged leaf in a one-inch zone using a foam brush. Untreated Quadris Quilt Xcel Headline® Stratego® Notes: Mix size (20 m. L) was calculated based on a 20 gallon per acre application volume. Two days after application plants were inoculated with spores of the Southern rust fungus and placed overnight in a dew chamber with optimal conditions for infection. The pictures were taken two weeks after inoculation. The area between lines indicated the zone of application.
