Analogue vs Digital
Three results of digitisation Democratisation: New media has provided enhanced access and transformed viewership and spectatorship into engagement and participation. Globalisation: We now have instantaneous digital communication that transcends regional or national boundaries. Interdisciplinarity: Convergence of knowledge disciplines. William Whewell has introduced the term “consilience” different approaches and methods to subjects coming together.
Lev Manovich “On one level new media is old media that has been digitized, ” p. 47.
The pre- and proto-digital Georges Pierre Seurat, Eiffel Tower 1889
Paul Klee, Ad Parnassum 1932
Victor Vasarely, Harlequin 1945 and Alphabet Plastique 1965
Post-digital An understanding of post-digital does not aim to describe a life after digital, but rather attempts to describe the present -day opportunity to explore the consequences of the digital and of the computer age. While the computer age has enhanced human capacity with inviting and uncanny prosthetics, the post-digital may provide a paradigm with which it is possible to examine and understand this enhancement.

Cyberculture “A consensual hallucination experienced daily by millions of legitimate operators… A graphic representation of data abstracted from the banks of every computer in the human system. Unthinkable complexity. Lines of light ranged in the nonspace of the mind, clusters and constellations of data. Like city lights, receding. ” (1984: 67)
Karl Popper’s Three Worlds 1. The world of physical objects, events and biological entities; 2. The world of mental events and objects; 3. The world of products of the human mind or abstract objects (theories, formulae, learning). World 3 is partially autonomous from 1 and 2 and that changes in World 3 can impact on Worlds 1 and 2. Cyberspace is an emblematic mind-space of World 3.
