The Purpose of This Policy The purpose of this policy is to protect the safety of Hotel guests, visitors and employees by responding appropriately to a threat of physical harm. For the purpose of this policy, a “threat” may be a verbal or written remark, gesture or other threatening behavior that causes one to feel his or her physical safety is in danger. B. Our Threat Policy We do not allow threats of physical harm by Hotel team members, visitors or guests. We investigate all reports of threatening behavior. If You Are Threatened If your physical safety is threatened by anyone, including a Hotel guest, visitor or team member, take the following actions: 1. Do not respond with an argument or counter-threat. 2. If it is safe to do so, immediately leave the area. 3. Immediately report the incident to your supervisor or the manager-on-duty. 4. Response by All Team Members to an Overheard or Reported Threat If you hear a threat made by anyone against a Hotel guest, visitor or employee, immediately report the incident to your supervisor or the manager-on-duty. Do not attempt to intervene. If you are told of a threat, describe the incident to your supervisor or the manager -on-duty without delay. Procedure for the Manager-on-duty to the Report of a Threat If, while serving as manager-on-duty, a threat of physical harm to a Hotel guest, visitor or employee is reported to you, take the following actions: 1. If the threat sounds potentially serious or there may be present danger, call the police and ask for assistance. Then, stand by and wait for police assistance before taking any action. 2. If a team member is accused of making the threat, ask the team member for his or her version of the incident, and contact the employee's direct supervisor for assistance. If a Hotel guest or visitor has been accused of making the threat, determine whether his or her continued presence is a potential risk to the safety of employees, other guests or visitors. If so, contact the general manager for approval to arrange for the removal of the guest or visitor from Hotel property. If the general manager cannot be reached and you believe the guest or visitor is a safety risk, make arrangements for his or her removal from Hotel property. Note: If a Hotel guest is part of a group or preferred account, first contact the group coordinator or the account travel manager and explain the situation. If a team member is claiming to have been physically threatened, get his or her statement of the event. After getting the statement, ask if he or she would like to leave work for the rest of the day. If so, make the arrangements and contact the team member's direct supervisor. 6. Go to MMI Report Site to prepare and distribute an Incident Report.
