Planning for a Flood Minor floods are common in hotels, so all team members need to know how to prevent them and how to respond when they occur. A flood caused by a broken water pipe or natural causes is likely to do little permanent damage if proper planning is done in advance. The following should be done to plan for a flood: v Store all equipment and supplies that are vulnerable to water damage on pallets or shelves. v Know the procedure and locations to turn off the Hotel's water supply in an emergency. It is the responsibility of the maintenance supervisor to instruct managers-on-duty, security staff and the front-desk staff on the location of shut-off valves to the Hotel and how they are shut off. 600. Emergency Response Guide, 655 Flood Emergency Action Plan C. Water Pipe Breaks In case a water or sewer pipe breaks, immediately contact the manager-on-duty and maintenance supervisor. Shut off the main valve only as a last resort, because it will completely shut off the water in the building.
