Maths – Abacus Scheme As a school, we are continuing use the abacus scheme which covers year 6 knowledge and also recaps on previous learning which happened in years 3 -5 as this will give them a rounded knowledge and application of primary maths. Practical and realistic approach to some lessons – children understand the reasons why they are learning those skills – NOT JUST FOR TESTS Times tables are very important to many areas of maths and are practised daily through times tables rockstars.

Maths – Abacus Scheme Children are first taught or revise a skill

Maths – Abacus Scheme Children are first taught or revise a skill before completing tasks to show whether they need support, more practise or to move on. Children apply the skill in the lesson and show reasoning in their answers. When children are showing a solid understanding they are moved on to a challenge: applying the learning to new contexts and situations. Work is assessed at the end of the lesson so pupils understand what is needed next in their learning. Support is provided to those in need to increase their understanding and enable them to progress.
