Why so structured? “It doesn’t look like Reception at all!” “They’re too little to be doing so much work!”

Expected progress in year 1.

• Your child will be bringing home a letter or may have already brought one home listing their group colour and expectations required. • Please ensure your child brings the required resources back to class everyday – once you have read at home put them back in their bag. • Please encourage DAILY reading as building fluency is KEY and the only way to do this is by re-reading and familiarising children with words as it increases their sight vocabulary not needing to FRED each word! • Summer Assessments – regression some children will make rapid progress and be reassessed in two weeks.

The beginning of our English journey. Our main focus for the first half term is to independently write a simple sentence, including capital letter, finger spaces and full stops.

• We will be implementing a new maths scheme. It promotes very hands on and practical learning as well as developing maths mastery though deepening a child’s understanding by questioning.

PE Days • PE days are Monday & Tuesday • On PE days please bring your children in wearing their named La Moye PE kit. We don’t want you to lose kit!

Presentation • Presentation of work is highly important. • Positioning letters on lines, gluing in, cutting and positioning numbers in boxes are key learning skills for Y 1. • Try our best in everything we do! • We have a new scheme to help us with our handwriting, letter formation is a huge focus. We are preparing to join by the END of Year 1.

Outdoor Learning • Science – the coverage of topics in Year 1 presents a variety of outside opportunities. E. g. classifying plants, investigating shadows. • Outdoor Shed Classrooms – these will be used weekly in Spring and Summer Terms.

Assessment • In books – children will have a learning intention and a success criteria. • These tools will be used to inform planning and next steps for all pupils to ensure everyone’s learning is personalised and relevant to their needs.

Homework • Homework should be completed in pencil and to the same standard we expect in class. • We will set homework weekly via the green books. The homework will be explained to the children when they get it. Uniform • Please ensure all uniform is correctly named. • Long hair must be tied back. • P. E kit should be the expected La Moye logo polo and blue shorts. Tracksuit bottoms should be worn over the top of shorts in Winter.

Snack Provision Healthy Lunch • Please send your child to school with a fruit or vegetable snack in a separate snack box from their lunch box. • The children will be asked to eat the snack they come in with! • Please remember we are a nut free school so double check lunch boxes adhere to this.

Communication • Parent Mail – PLEASE ensure you are receiving parent mail as this is the main channel of communication between home and school. • Newsletters • Emails

Drop off and collection • For health and safety reasons please drop your child off at the gate near Year 3 and pick up from outside the school hall. • Please make sure you are on time to drop off and collect your child as this can upset your child unnecessarily.
