Welcome to Year 3 Teachers – Miss West, Miss Lennon Support Staff – Mrs Jones, Mrs Burrows, Mrs Poizor, Miss Elderfield.
Curriculum for the year Ø Literacy/ Numeracy each morning Ø PE - Monday / Tuesday Ø Topics for the year – Ancient Egypt, Volcanoes and Tsunamis, Entertainment in the 20 th Century, Changes to Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age and Spain.
• Science – Plants, Rocks, Light, Human Body, Magnets and Forces. • Proposed trips – Pantomime, Manchester Museum
ICT Ø Internet and E-Safety: Ø We take this issue seriously at Brookburn. Internet and social media safety is taught to all year groups at the beginning of the school year. Ø We have school wide safety features but if anything gets past these filters, students are taught to switch off the screen and report to a member of staff immediately.

How can you help? Ø Homework – Handed out on Friday to be returned the following Wednesday. Comprises Literacy, Numeracy, Spellings and Times Tables. Ø Reading books changed on Monday. Daily reading at home. Ø Helping your child with maths, telling the time Ø Study Guides – Rising Stars, Descriptosaurus Ø Spellings handed out Friday to be learnt by the following Wednesday.
How can you help? Key areas that we will be working on in Year 3: Ø Learn to recall multiplication facts for the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 9 multiplication times tables. Ø Recall multiplication facts in a random order with speed (count 5 seconds between each question). Ø Tell the time in 5 minute intervals. Ø Match an analogue clock face to the digital time. Ø Start sentences in varied ways. Ø Use full stops, capital letters, question marks, exclamation marks and speech marks.
Reminders Ø Ø Ø Ø Book bags – brought daily PE bags – bring in on Monday and stay in school Labelling – please label with children’s full name Lost property – encourage children to be responsible for their possessions Jewellery – watches and stud earrings only (must be removed for PE) PE Kit - black or navy shorts/jogging bottoms/leggings and a white t-shirt – trainers for outside, pumps for inside. Den day (Monday) – Children to have a change of shoes, trousers and coat. Medical information - inhalers
