WMO-No. 49 - Standards The standard practices and procedures: Ø Are those practices and procedures which it is necessary that Members follow or implement; Ø Are distinguished by the use of the term shall in the English text and by suitable equivalent terms in the French, Russian and Spanish texts.

WMO-No. 49 - Recommendations The recommended practices and procedures: Ø Are those practices and procedures which it is desirable that Members follow or implement; Ø Are distinguished by the use of the term should in the English text and by suitable equivalent terms in the French, Russian and Spanish texts.

WIGOS Technical Regulations Members shall implement and manage their national observing systems in accordance with the provisions laid out in this Volume, Part I, and in Annex VIII (Manual on the WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WMO‑No. 1160)). 2. 4. 3. 4 Members shall also perform quality control of observations on a non-real-time basis, prior to forwarding the observations for archiving. 2. 4. 3. 5 Members should develop and implement adequate quality control processes.
