What will I gain from taking English at Year 11 n Level of literacy (reading and writing) required for your future career. n Literacy credits for NCEA – All English credits count as Level 1 Literacy credits.
Programmes available at Year 11 n Achievement Standards English (16 credits internal / 8 credits external) n Unit Standards English (10 credit literacy package) + some achievement standards – 6 internal/ 4 external
Assessment Year 11 Speeches - (3 credits) n Static Images - (3 credits) n Reading Log - (4 credits) n Writing - (3 credits) n Close Viewing of Film - (3 credits) n Written and Visual Texts - ( Novel, Short Stories, Film) n External NZQA exams (8 credits) n
Looking ahead to Year 12 and 13 n n n It is important for you to do well in English at Year 11 because that will determine what classes you will be eligible to take in the future. You will need 14 or more credits to get into the top class in Year 12 students will only be able to take English in Year 13 if they have 14 Level 2 credits.
Why must I take English at Year 12 or 13? Level of literacy (reading and writing) required for any future career. n Further study i. e. tertiary has literacy requirements. n University Entrance literacy 5 credits Reading 5 credits Writing ( Level 2 or above) n

Year 13 English n There is only one English Class at Level 3. This is Advanced Academic English for those students who consider themselves to be very good at English. (i. e must have 14 + credits for Level 2 English) n
