Welding, Cosmetology certifications). • An Endorsement is similar to a college major. COMPARISON Advanced Placement (AP) Description The AP Program allows students to take college level

COMPARISON Advanced Placement (AP) Description The AP Program allows students to take college level courses and ex ams while in high school. A strong score on the culminating exam may result in college credit or placement. Credit College credit may be awarded depending on the student’s score on the AP examination. Individ ual colleges and universities, not the College Board or the AP Program, determine course credit and placement. Accepted at thousands of universities around the world. Typically requires a College/ score of 3 or higher on the AP exam. University Students should check with their Acceptance chosen universities to see if AP credit may be awarded. Dual Credit allows high school students to earn both high school and college credit. In order to earn college credit, the course must be passed with a college grade of C or higher. High school and college credit through Lone Star College (LSC) is awarded when the student passes the course. Accepted at public (and some private) colleges and universities in Texas as well as many outside of Texas. Requires semester average of college C or better for transferability. Students should check with their chosen universities to see if Dual credit may be accepted. Dual Credit/AP Comparison Eligibility Open to any high school student. Must meet college readiness standard scores on the TSI, or earn exemptions with PSAT / NMSQT, SAT, ACT, or STAAR scores.

Four Year Planning / Course Selections • Naviance will be open to students and parents to make changes until February 28 th. • Classes fill up very quickly so it is important that the courses desired to be taken are selected prior to the closure of Naviance on Feb. 28 th. After Feb. 28 th, there is no guarantee a course will be open for enrollment. • Students will receive a course verification sheet at the beginning of April and the beginning of May. • Elective changes are not allowed after the due date of the 2 nd verification sheet. (Due date will be listed on the 2 nd verification sheet). Students are only allowed to make level changes at flight school. It is important to make sure electives are selected accurately and wisely. IMPORTANT : Endorsements may not be changed in Naviance. You must consult with your counselor prior to an endorsement change. Changing your endorsement without your counselor’s approval may result in a delay of graduation.
