FHSP W/ Endorsements • 4 English (Eng I, Eng III, and advanced English) • 4 Math (to include Alg I and Geom) • 4 Science (to include Bio and Lab Science) • 3 Social Studies (W. Geog or W. Hist, US History, Gov’t, and Econ) • Fine Art – 1 credit • PE – 1 credit • Foreign Language - 2 credits of the same language • Electives – 7 credits FHSP/DLA Endorsements • Meet all requirements of the FHSP with Endorsements • Complete Algebra II as one of the required math credits NOTE: • Electives choices will be dependent upon the endorsement. • Some endorsements will require more Core class completion and/or specific Core classes. Foundation High School Plan

The purpose of the FHSP graduation plan is to…. • Instill flexibility in public education by enabling students to either pursue a traditional path into colleges and universities or move directly into the workforce (ex. Welding, Cosmetology certifications). • An Endorsement is similar to a college major. Completion of an Endorsement will allow students to graduate from high school with knowledge and/or experience in the college major they wish to pursue. • Students can earn an endorsement in one of the following areas: 1. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) 2. Business and Industry 3. Public Services 4. Arts and Humanities 5. Multidisciplinary Studies Foundation High School Plan

Public Service Endorsement Students who desire to make a lasting contribution to society by serving their fellow man should consider the public service endorsement. Arts & Humanities Endorsement Students who choose an endorsement in arts and humanities will be designing, producing, exhibiting, performing, writing and publishing multimedia content, including visual and performing arts and design, journalism, and entertainment services. Multidisciplinary Endorsement A multi-disciplinary endorsement will build a broad-based education. This endorsement is not geared toward any particular career but will allow students to design their own program and explore more than one area of interest. FOUNDATION HIGH SCHOOL PLAN It is VERY important for parents and students to check the specific admission requirements for any college a student may be interested in attending. How will colleges view the new graduation requirements?

• English II • Algebra I • Biology • US History All students must meet at least the Level II Standard on all five (5) EOCs to meet graduation requirements.

ADVANCED CLASSES Pre-AP / Honors / Dual Credit • Available in most subject areas • Teacher input is valuable in making this decision • Prepare for college • May earn college credits through Dual Credit courses and/or AP exams Who should take Advanced classes? Students who are: • Self-motivated • Hard-working • Challenge-seeking • Capable of handling faster pace • Willing to invest extra time, but still keep a BALANCE • Planning to pursue a highly competitive field Core Class Selection

Advanced Placement (AP) • Students may receive college credit only if they take the AP exam and score a 3 or higher on the exam. AP courses and exams do not qualify as dual credit. There is a fee ($90 average cost) to take a AP exam for college credit. Check the AP credit policy at the college of choice to confirm what score is required in order to award credit. Dual Credit (D) • Students may receive college credit if they pass the course with a college grade of a “C”. Core Class Selection

COMPARISON Advanced Placement (AP) Description The AP Program allows students to take college level courses and ex ams while in high school. A strong score on the culminating exam may result in college credit or placement. Credit College credit may be awarded depending on the student’s score on the AP examination. Individ ual colleges and universities, not the College Board or the AP Program, determine course credit and placement. Accepted at thousands of universities around the world. Typically requires a College/ score of 3 or higher on the AP exam. University Students should check with their Acceptance chosen universities to see if AP credit may be awarded. Dual Credit allows high school students to earn both high school and college credit. In order to earn college credit, the course must be passed with a C or higher. High school and college credit through Lone Star College (LSC) is awarded when the student passes the course. Accepted at public (and some private) colleges and universities in Texas as well as many outside of Texas. Requires semester average of C or better for transferability. Students should check with their chosen universities to see if Dual credit may be awarded. Dual Credit/AP Comparison Eligibility Open to any high school student. Must meet college readiness standard scores on the Accuplacer, or earn exemptions with SAT, ACT, or STAAR scores.

Four Year Plan / Course Selections • Log on to www. bridges. com • Review the classes selected for next year • Students will receive a copy of their Bridges Four Year Plan on course selection day. Any change requests must be indicated on Four Year Plan and returned to house counselor. • Change requests are due back to House Counselor no later than February 16 th. Counselors will input change requests in Bridges. • All changes thereafter will be made via course request verifications which will be distributed to students in April. NOTE: Graduation Plans (Endorsements) may not be changed in Bridges. You must consult with your counselor prior to an endorsement change. Changing your endorsement without your counselor’s approval may result in a delay of graduation.

Students must earn 6 credits at the end of their 9 th grade year to be classified as a Sophomore. v. Students must earn 12 credits at the end of their 10 th grade year to be classified a Junior. Course Basics

Successful completion of Algebra 1 is necessary before enrolling in any other math course. Any student who has not successfully completed Algebra 1 and therefore unable to enroll in a sequenced math course the following year will put themselves in danger of not being able to meet graduation requirements on time. Credit Retrieval Options • Average to Pass - If two semesters average to a 70, the student will receive 1 full year of credit • Humble ISD Summer School • After School Credit Recovery - Contact your house counselor or Ms. Toro for further information asap. • Texas Tech Correspondence Course • Texas Tech Credit By Exam NOTE – Semester grades are viewable in the Home Access Center (HAC). A plan for credit retrieval will need to be made for any unearned credit.

• Counselors will be working with FRESHMEN to complete their course selections on January 17 th and 18 th. • Counselors will be working with SOPHOMORES to complete their course selections on January 24 th and 25 th. • REMINDER - Change requests are due back to House Counselor no later than February 16 th. AHS College Readiness Information Night – Monday, February 12 th at 6: 00 pm. Parents are encouraged to attend to gather information on how to help prepare your child for college. District CATE Expo – Tuesday, February 6 th from 4: 30 until 7: 30 pm at the Humble Civic Center Students and parents are encouraged to attend to learn more about Career and Technology courses offered.
