1 st Activity- 1 minute Write the following words in your study guide: 1. anxious 2. contest 3. defect 4. innocence 5. lax 6. mentor 7. pessimist 8. potent 9. protagonist 10. undulate
2 nd Activity- 10 minutes 1. Work with a partner or alone and match the definitions to the words (with the word strips provided) 2. Once they are checked for correctness, you will write the definitions into your study guide. 3. You may use your book to read the word in a sentence.
3 rd Activity- 5 minutes 1. You will be assigned 1 -2 words to write a GOOD sentence for. You must show the meaning of the word/s in some way (hint: use a synonym). 2. You will present the sentence/s during the powerpoint.

6. mentor
6. mentor n n n POS- noun Definition- a wise teacher or counselor Synonym- teacher, superior POS- verb Definition- to counsel, guide, or teach A teacher can be a great mentor.
7. pessimist
7. pessimist n n POS- noun Definition- someone who expects the worst or has a negative outlook Synonym- complainer, cynic Antonym- optimist Negative Nancy is such a pessimist, she always sees the glass half empty.

10. undulate n n POS- verb Definition- to move in a wave-like motion in sound or appearance Synonym- ripple, roll Antonym- straighten The fins on salt water fish seem to undulate so much faster than the fins on fresh water fish.
