The purpose of the Enterprise Skills Story is to: q illustrate the enterprise skills q encourage students to use the language of enterprise education q support students to consider ways of demonstrating enterprise skills q support students to their enterprise learning document
Using the Enterprise Skills Story q The Enterprise Skills Story is featured in the Enterprise Skills Portfolio and there activities for each of the slides q It is suggested that you also print out poster size copies of the Enterprise Skills Story and display them in your classroom
q The following slides Enterprise Skills Story illustrate the q The Enterprise Attributes are shown for each component of the Story q A description of how these skills can be demonstrated follows each of the Enterprise Attributes q These provide practical information to support students to be active in demonstrating enterprise skills
Using Initiative and Drive This attribute describes a person who: sets directions for own learning demonstrates independence and initiative has the drive to achieve personal and community goals I demonstrate this skill when I: r Can get onto tasks quickly r Can complete my work on time r Am interested and enthusiastic about learning activities r Identify things that need to be done and get on with it
Being creative and innovative This attribute describes a person who: uses creative thinking and strategies identifies interactions and issues that require solutions applies lateral thinking and innovative solutions to issues and problems I demonstrate this skill when I: r Think of new ways of doing things r Find interesting ways of solving problems r Determine the consequences of actions and ways of doing things r Come up with new and interesting ideas
Being positive and flexible This attribute describes a person who: shows motivation, commitment and enthusiasm for learning demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in learning situations. is optimistic and confident in new learning situations I demonstrate this skill when I: r Like learning about new things r Can change my ways of thinking and doing things to fit in with others r Feel confident and happy about doing new things r Am willing to listen to others’ ideas and issues
Making decisions and solving problems This attribute describes a person who: takes responsibility for their personal actions identifies, develops and practices a variety of problem solving techniques and approaches demonstrates decision making skills to resolve issues I demonstrate this skill when I: r Take responsibility for my actions r Recognise issues or situations that may lead to problems r Think of alternative approaches before deciding on a solution r Question the usefulness of different views r Can make up my mind when I have all of the information I need
Planning and organising This attribute describes a person who: sets goals for learning activities plans and organises learning activities completes agreed learning activities to specified standards shares tasks, responsibilities and outcomes I demonstrate this skill when I: r Provide leadership for others r Work our what needs to be done r Make plans to achieve what needs to be done r Plan what resources are needed r Plan a budget
Communicating and negotiating This attribute describes a person who: communicates effectively with others uses persuasion effectively to present an argument listens actively to others to determine their views deals with conflict and negotiates solutions I demonstrate this skill when I: r Negotiate ideas and issues with others r Negotiate activities/tasks with others r Work out what I need to present r Work with others to solve problems r Create a presentation suited to the audience r Present information in appropriate ways
Managing resources and people This attribute describes a person who: shows leadership to manage the resources and people assesses the importance of competing priorities in achieving goals negotiates appropriately and effectively reflects on actions to assess their impact I demonstrate this skill when I: r Make plans based on the resources needed r Make plans based on the people needed for tasks r Determine the best approach to achieve success r Show leadership in working with others
Working cooperatively This attribute describes a person who: uses teamwork to achieve personal and shared goals works collaboratively with others interacts constructively with others accepts different attitudes, approaches and people I demonstrate this skill when I: r Reach agreement with others r Complete my work as part of the group tasks r Work constructively with others even though they might have different views or approaches, or be different to me r Share the work (good and not so good) with others
Reviewing and assessing This attribute describes a person who: evaluates feedback and respond appropriately monitors, organises and analyses information evaluates the positive and negatives in situations and responds accordingly I demonstrate this skill when I: r Determine ways to measure improvement or success r Help to decide how I will be assessed r Evaluate the results of my work r Help others evaluate their work
