I. Paul, a Prisoner Imprisonment Prophesied Acts 9: 15 -16 (NLT) 15 But the Lord said, “Go, for Saul is my chosen instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and to kings, as well as to the people of Israel. 16 And I will show him how much he must suffer for my name’s sake. ” Acts 21: 4, 10 -14 Ready not only to be jailed but to die for the sake of the Lord Jesus

2 Corinthians 11: 23 -27 (NLT) 23 Are they servants of Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. 24 Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. 26 I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. 27 I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm.

V. 3 -4 - Soldier – pleasing the enlisting officer

V. 5 - Athlete – winning the prize

V. 6 - Farmer – hardworking, enjoying the fruit of their labor

V. 15 - Worker – not ashamed, correctly explaining the truth

V. 20 -21 – Vessel – honorable and ready for the Master to use

V. 24 – Servant – able to teach, kind and patient

Chapter 3 – Perils V. 1 -5 – many troubles in the last days V. 10 -14 - trust my example and my teaching V. 15 -17 - trust the Word of God

Chapter 4 – Peace - V. 6 -8 Death is near I have remained faithful The prize awaits

III. Our Challenge 2 Timothy 1: 9 -10 God saved us Called us to live a holy life His plan from the beginning He broke the power of death He illuminated the way to life through the good news

Hebrews 12: 1 -3 (NLT) 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
