William Holman Hunt Self-Portrait, 1845 Nasceu em Londres em 2 de Abril de 1827. Durante alguns anos trabalhou como balconista, deixando o mundo do comércio para estudar no “British Museum” e na “National Gallery”. Ingressou na “Royal Academy Schools” em 1844, onde conheceu Millais e Rossetti e juntos, em 1848, fundaram a ”Irmandade Pré-Rafaelita”. Hunt foi o único a permanecer fiel aos seus princípios originais durante toda sua carreira artística. Entre 1854 e 1873 Holman Hunt visitou a Palestina algumas vezes para retratar cenas da vida de Cristo, dando mais autenticidade aos seus estudos bíblicos. Exibiu seu trabalho na “Royal Academy”, 1846 -74, na “Old Watercolour Society”, 1869 -1903, na “Grosvenor Gallery” e na “New Gallery”. Foi eleito membro da “Royal Watercolour Society” em 1869, recebeu o “Order of Merit” em 1905 e foi um associado da “Royal Scottish Academy”. Hunt casou-se com Fanny Waugh em 1865, mas ela morreu em dezembro de 1866. Em 1875 casou com sua cunhada Edith Waugh. O casamento teve lugar na Suíça, uma vez que era ilegal na Grã-Bretanha. Hunt morreu em Kensington, Londres, em 7 de setembro de 1910, sendo enterrado na “St. Paul’s Cathedral”.
