Kiwanis International Serving the Children of the World Purpose: To improve lives through fellowship in service worldwide. Defining Statement: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

HUMAN & SPIRITUAL VALUES Chair: Vicky Rowe Serving the Children of the World The committee should implement projects that support spiritual development, provide human companionship and comfort, or offer guidance and counseling. Projects can encourage interfaith and interdenominational religious activity, but should not support a specific religious sect. Projects may include prayer breakfasts, inspirational or spiritual moments or reflections, visits to nursing homes and support of grief counseling.

MEMBERSHIP GROWTH & EDUCATION Chair: Laura Hughes Serving the Children of the World The committee should strive to increase membership according to the standards provided by the by-laws. The committee should develop plans for an active membership recruitment campaign and help in the education and retention of members. The committee should also develop an effective orientation and induction ceremony for new members and promote regular attendance by all club members at club meeting.

MILITARY AFFAIRS Chair: Kelli Pendleton Serving the Children of the World The committee is responsible for providing support and activities involving the military and their families. Support includes recognition of military personnel (Soldier of the Quarter/Year, NCO of the Quarter/Year), special speakers, special luncheons, AUSA membership and providing help and assistance with the annual Christmas Party for military children, etc.

The committee is responsible for preparing the weekly club bulletin, yearly club brochure, club website and scrapbook.

WARM THE CHILDREN Chair: Willie Renshaw & Mike Kissner Serving the Children of the World The committee is responsible for coordinating all of the efforts of the annual Warm The Children campaign as well as seeking community and all Kiwanians support and help with this most worthy and special service project.

Warm the Children Serving the Children of the World Warm the Children • Take approx. 200 children shopping for warm clothes. • Since 1995, $205, 615 has been raised with 2, 328 children helped. • Joint effort with the Kentucky New Era and the Salvation Army.

YOUTH SERVICES Chair: Marion Adams Serving the Children of the World The committee shall implement and support projects that address school-aged youth. Projects can address academics, advocacy career exploration, character education and citizenship, club activities, health, hobbies, leadership development, literacy, mentoring, prevention of drug abuse, or sports and recreation.

YOUNG CHILDREN PRIORITY ONE Chair: Ruth Ann Rettie Serving the Children of the World The committee should implement projects for children, prenatal through age five. Projects can address maternal and child health, childcare, early development, nutrition, parenting education and support, advocacy, pediatric trauma or safety. Popular projects include encouraging literacy, assisting childcare and preschool programs, distributing home-safety checklists, bicycle safety programs and assisting with immunizations.

Club Administration Serving the Children of the World Our club membership votes on: • Election of club officers and directors. • Amendments to club bylaws. The Board of Directors • Determines club policies. • Approves club projects. • Approves and controls club budget. • Manages the club.

Board of Directors Meeting Serving the Children of the World Provides an opportunity to be involved in the decisions affecting club administration. Day: 1 st Tuesday of each month Time: Noon Location: Pennyroyal Hospice Board Room We encourage members who are not on the board to attend meetings.

Finances/Budgeting Serving the Children of the World • Administrative Account – Income: Club dues, meal charges, new member fees, happy dollars. – Expenses: Club Administration/International & District Conventions. • Service Account – Income from public fund-raising projects or contributions and cannot be used to pay administrative expenses of the club.

Conventions Serving the Children of the World The Annual Kiwanis International Convention is an excellent event, which allows clubs from around the world to exchange ideas, participate in forums, and share fellowship. The District Convention is the kickoff for the new Kiwanis year, which runs from October to September. Club officers and interested members attend. The District Mid-Year Conference gives members an opportunity to attend classes and forums about club operation and other exciting topics.

Kiwanis International Foundation Serving the Children of the World • Charitable fund-raising entity of Kiwanis International. • Funds grants for activities and programs. Worldwide assistance – 911 Victims Children’s Fund – Tsunami relief – Hurricanes in the Gulf Coast – Typhoons in the Philippines – Earthquakes in El Salvador and Taiwan – Eradicate Iodine Deficiency Disorder (IDD) • Annual Club Gift Campaign

Our Club Awards Serving the Children of the World • Awarded the Salvation Army Bell for collecting the most money during the kettle campaign for the past 10 years vs. the Rotary Club. • The Hixson Award is named in honor of George F. Hixson, the first Kiwanis International President. A $1, 000 contribution is made on behalf of the award recipients. • The Kiwanian of the Year Award is presented to honor a member for outstanding service to the club each year.
