Overview • Simple machines are tools that make work easier. These machines are used to lift heavy weight, move an object over a distance, push things apart, change the direction of a force, or hold an object together. • There are six simple machines: the inclined plane, the wedge, the screw, the pulley, the lever and the wheel and axle.
