In Luke 15: 18, the Prodigal Son said, “I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight. ”

Prov 3: 5, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. ”

Proverbs Chapter 13 Section 3, Vs. 12 -19 Vs. 19, The Happiness of God vs. Unfulfilled Desires.

Vs. 19 a presents psychological facts and vs. 19 b ethical ones; what goes on in the mentality of your soul affects and emphasizes what you do.

The Exhortation! Vs. 19 a

“Desire” - TAA’WAH, תאוה “longing, eager desire, lust or delight”, Prov 10: 24; 11: 23; 13: 12. Here it is the good kind of desire, longing for the things of God, His Word and righteousness.

“Realized”, simple passive of HAYAH, היה , “to happen, to become, to fulfill, etc. ” You receive the fulfillment of your righteous and ethical desires.

“Is sweet to the soul” ARAB, ערב NEPHESH, נפש. “to be sweet, pleasing or pleasant to your soul / life. ” It means inner peace, happiness and contentment, the +H of God.

The Contrast!

The Contrast! “An abomination to fools. ” TO’EBAH, תועבה KESIYL, כסיל The fool loathes, hates, or is disgusted to turn away from the evil they live in.

“Depart from evil”, SUR MIN RA The fool does not want to give up the sin and evil they learn and apply in their lives.

It is extremely difficult, though not impossible, for the apostate believer to perform the 3 R’s, “Repent, Rebound and Recover. ”

Their sin and sin nature have such a strong hold over them that it seems foolish to change their way of life.

They are deceived thinking their way is the correct course that satisfies their wants, needs and desires, when in fact they are only temporary solutions at best that create ever increasing pain, sorrow, suffering and poverty, (spiritual depravity), each day.

They rather wallow in their mire under the frantic search for happiness, (not realizing their hopes and desires), than to admit they are wrong and leave their wickedness.

Only fools prefer:

The only relationship that is truly gratifying and lifesustaining is one with the Lord, Psa 17: 15; 42: 1.

The righteous believer consistently learns and applies God’s Word in the Faith-Rest life under the filling of God the Holy Spirit, Eph 5: 18, seeing its benefits and blessings realized in their life.

The wise understand the benefits of accomplishing their goals, (growing to spiritual maturity), vs. 13 b, 14 a…

… working diligently to realize them, (consistent intake and application of Bible Doctrine in the Faith. Rest life), vs. 15 a, 16 a…

…and to fulfill any obligations that they have to others, (Ambassadorship), vs. 17 b, which results in blessing for both time and eternity, vs. 18 b.

We are exhorted to turn from evil and sinful ways where desires go unfulfilled, and instead turn to God and His Word which has many beneficial and lasting blessings for both time and eternity.
