Eachdraidh nan Gàidheil Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig), is a Celtic language which is native to Scotland.

Eachdraidh nan Gàidheil By 600 ad Gaelic was used throughout Scotland. People in the West, the North and the South of Scotland used the language every day. In Central Scotland, Gaelic was also used, particularly when trading at markets.
Cultar nan Gàidheil • Between 900 ad and around 1745 ad The Gaels used the Clan System. • Clans were made up of many people of one family or area. • Clans were led by a Clan Chief and would battle other clans for land or rights.
Cultar nan Gàidheil • Highlanders mainly worked the land to survive. • When they weren’t working they enjoyed Gaelic song and played music on Highland Instruments in a Highland style. • They also developed their own form of dancing.
Cultar nan Gàidheil • In order to prepare for battles, the Clans wold hold local festivals in order to practice and show strength. These events became known as Highland games. • Highland Games are still held today all over the world.
Cultar nan Gàidheil As well as Highland Games, Clansmen would use wooden swords to practice for combat rather then injure themselves with real swords which were expensive.
Cultar nan Gàidheil Eventually, a ball was introduced to this practice and it evolved into a game.
