Key Issues Specialist organisations, professionals and services around the world do not communicate and share knowledge effectively. This is especially prevalent in the deaf, blind and disability services. There are many exclusive organisations set up to cater for multiple needs, but no INCLUSIVE organisations that meet the needs of deaf sign language users. There is a lack of quality training programmes globally in the field of deaf and additional needs awareness, communication, education, guiding and support at a family, professional and national level. 6

Why is our work so important? There are one billion disabled people in the world. 80% of them are in developing countries with no access to education or employment opportunities. The are 72 million deaf people in the world capable of working if they had access to a workplace or educational setting that incorporated inclusive working and learning strategies. Around the world deaf organisations, blind organisations and disability organisations are all working exclusively and not interacting or sharing knowledge and resources. Inclusion is easy to do…. it just requires creative thinking! By empowering people who live with and understand deaf and disability issues to work alongside the mainstream hearing population, inclusive work practices can happen! 33
