Exposing Youth to Conservation Careers “I am so happy that I had the opportunity to participate in this program and be a part of this wonderful park. I have learned many things about myself, the Hawaiian environment, having a job and the potential of my future career. Protecting our Earth and all of the species on it is one of the most important jobs in the world. ” – Grace Treddenick – Youth Ranger
…and the wonders in their own back yard “After participating in this program my whole outlook at the world has been completely transformed. I have newfound respect for everything around me that I see. ” - Tyler Atwood – Youth Ranger

Changing lives for the better
Hitting the target Our Community
Many of the participants lives are hanging on a string
And the NPS helps them hold on
All while getting important work done in the park… “We must say that the Youth Interns we were honored to work beside in 2012 not only made a difference in our mission but made a impression on our staff. These young folks were professional, energetic and worked hard at any task they were given. Having worked with other youth programs, these interns clearly exhibited the traits desired by any employee, let alone someone of high school age and reflected well on the extensive screen and training that made up this program. These interns demonstrated a positive attitude and work ethic that is seldom seen in young adults with limited work experience. These interns worked right along with both park staff and other youth programs and were willing to tackle difficult tasks with enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn. Due to their work we were able to increase shop productivity and complete projects on or ahead of time. Clearly this program produced a quality person to introduce into a work force. ” – Ron Borne, Chief of Assets Management
