Covid Routines Y 5 start school at 8. 45 am until 3. 15 pm

Covid Routines Y 5 start school at 8. 45 am until 3. 15 pm and have a morning break at 10. 30 am in their designated area of the playground. Their lunch is at 12. 30 pm which is structured by having an outdoor break 12. 30 pm until 1 pm and then they go into the hall for their lunch. Lunches across school are staggered to ensure only a limited number of children are in the hall at any one time. We encourage regular handwashing throughout the day and we have hand sanitiser stations in classroom and throughout school. Children have their own equipment in their trays. They have a pencil case with stationary provided by school, a white board and a reading book. We ask if children could provide their own colouring crayons/ pencils please. They are only to bring in book bags (no big bags/ rucsacs) Our PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays and children are to come into school dressed in their PE kits. Unfortunately, there will be no whole school assemblies at the moment, so celebration certificates will be awarded on a Friday and photos taken and uploaded onto Parent App.

Rewards and Sanctions Children are awarded house points and certificates (MAGIC, achievement and presentation) for exemplary attitude to learning. At the end of each half term, we will continue to have treat days. When behaviour doesn’t meet our expectations or Golden Rules are broken, children will receive a verbal warning, Yellow cards or Red cards (which results in them missing our end of term Treat Day). Please refer to our online behaviour policy on our website for further details.

Homework Reading – Children in Year 5 should read at home daily and write

Homework Reading – Children in Year 5 should read at home daily and write a brief synopsis of what they have read (this only needs to be a few sentences) Reading records will be checked in school. At least four reads must be recorded by a Friday. We will set weekly spelling/ sentence homework on a Friday, which is to be returned the following Friday. Spelling tests will take place on a Friday. Maths homework will be set on a Friday and is to be retuned the following Friday. Children are also encouraged to access Times Tables Rockstars at home to improve and increase their recall.

Reading Children are assessed in school and are given a levelled book to read

Reading Children are assessed in school and are given a levelled book to read at home. They will also choose one of the 100 books for ‘pleasure’ which is kept in their trays. It is important that the children have an understanding of what they are reading which is why we ask them to write a brief synopsis in their reading records. Questioning your child is also a vital part of developing their reading skills so we have provided bookmarks in reading folders to help with questioning.
