Mrs. Piper My name is Amanda Piper. This will be my 19 th year

Mrs. Piper My name is Amanda Piper. This will be my 19 th year teaching. I have a Bachelor's Degree from. Troy University, Masters from AUM and an Ed. S from Troy University. I have 3 beautiful boys, Braxton (16), Mason (13), and Cullen (9). I am so excited to get started with our new class this year. Our classroom is a place where I strive to make learning fun, challenging, and meaningful.

Transportation Tag All students must wear their transportation tag until September 25 th. On

Transportation Tag All students must wear their transportation tag until September 25 th. On the first day of school, parents may walk their child to their classroom. After this, parents are not allowed into the building. There will be staff members on duty in the hallways and at morning spots to help your child get to their classroom. Their transportation tag is SO important because it tells everybody their name, teachers name and how they get home. Your child MUST wear this until we have all learned their transportation.

Also, if someone is picking up your child (including you) , ALWAYS have a picture ID available, and make sure that person is on approved list in office. In the event that you need to check your child out for an appointment, etc. you may do so through the front office prior to 2: 00 p. m. No checkouts allowed after 2: 00 p. m.

PKS Security We take the safety of your child VERY seriously at PKS. Our school will be locked from 8: 30 -2: 30 each day. Visitors may enter through the front doors only to check out a student. Each visitor will be “buzzed in” at that location. Make sure you ring the door bell located to the right of the door. Please have a photo ID available at all times when on PKS campus.

Medication Students are not allowed to transport medication. It must be signed in with the nurse. Also, the medication must have a doctor’s prescription and signed form with clear instructions. Please see Nurse Nikki to fill out medication forms and/or if you have any questions. Please do not send child to school if they are experiencing: Fever Vomiting Diarrhea Undiagnosed Rash Pink Eye Lice and/or Nits **Look at pages 17 and 18 in your student handbook for more info on illness and medications.

Snack We have a snack time every day. Your child may purchase a drink

Snack We have a snack time every day. Your child may purchase a drink and snack from school or bring one from home. The cost is $. 75 for juice and $. 75 for snack. On Fridays, ice cream is available for snack. Ice cream costs $. 75. Snack money must be sent to school daily in a labeled envelope/baggie. You may also send a snack and drink from home. Please do not send carbonated beverages, glass containers, or candy. Students need a snack and drink every day for snack time. EXAMPLE Mary Smith Snack Mrs. Piper $1. 50

Lunch Until further notice… Lunch and Breakfast will be served in the classroom. If you do not want your child to eat breakfast with us, please put it in writing to your child’s teacher. In addition, please make sure to explain this to your child. You will have the opportunity to fill out a free or reduced lunch form for your child. This form must be returned as soon as possible. Every child will need to pay full price for lunch until the form is approved. Please DO NOT combine lunch and snack money in the same envelope. Send a separate envelope/bag for each purchase. Your child will be given a universal pin number. This number will be your child’s number for his/her breakfast/lunch account until the child exits the school system.

Curriculum We use Reading Street by Scott Foresman and Envision Math. All required standards

Curriculum We use Reading Street by Scott Foresman and Envision Math. All required standards are taught through these curriculums. Social Science standards are taught independently by the teacher and are often incorporated into our reading and math curriculum. Report Cards are given out 4 times during the school year, at the end of each 9 weeks. Progress reports will also be given out 4 times during the year, in the middle of each 9 weeks. The grading system is E= Excellent, S= Satisfactory, P= Progressing, N= Needs Improvement.

Curriculum VIRTUAL PLATFORM: SCHOOLOGY All students, VIRTUAL AND TRADITIONAL, will be provided Schoology Login

Curriculum VIRTUAL PLATFORM: SCHOOLOGY All students, VIRTUAL AND TRADITIONAL, will be provided Schoology Login information. The traditional students will need this information in the event that it becomes necessary that the entire school goes Virtual or if a student must stay home for an extended amount of time. Please make sure to keep up with your password. These may also be used on e-learning days.

School Policies In order to pick up a child in the afternoon, you must be on the child’s pick up list in the office and have a PKS PICK UP PASS IN HAND. If not, you will not be able to pick up a child. No exceptions. *Each family will provided 2 at the beginning of the year. If you need an additional PICK UP PASS, the parent or legal guardian will need to come to the office with a picture ID. There will be a $2. 00 cost.

Discipline We will be discussing class and school rules during the first two weeks.

Discipline We will be discussing class and school rules during the first two weeks. We will use “Positive Paw Prints” for our school wide positive behavior plan. We also have a behavior pin chart in class. The behavior calendar in your child’s binder will reflect their behavior for each day. Always feel free to call me if you have any concerns.
