Guidelines and Procedures
Guide line 1 Form a single file line outside my door. Do Not enter until I give you permission. Greet Mrs. Jeffries with an elbow bump, a good morning/afternoon and a smile
Guide line 2 � Be in your assigned seat and working on the DO NOW when the bell rings. � *Bell work will be displayed on the board when you enter the classroom and the first five minutes of EVERY class minute is SILENT. � FIRST FIVE
Special Guide Line • Turn in HW papers during the Do Now period (first 5).
GUIDE LINE 3 �Bring ALL books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave. �Remember stated. �* Notebooks stay with me unless otherwise Unpack your things, and put your backpack NEATLY on the wall next to your assigned number. You will not be allowed to access your backpack after the first 5. �Stealing

Guide Line 10 • Do not blurt out in class!! I understand you might have something important to say, but outbursts are not tolerated.

That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. � Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this year. � ****Please Note that this is a SAFE SPACE!!! Entering the Room � Enter silently. � Grab your Notebook. � Take the fastest route to your seat. � Unpack. Put Backpack in Assigned Area. � Turn in your home work � Sharpen Pencils � Have a seat in your assigned chair. � Take out your materials. � Review the agenda. � Begin bell work. You will have 5 minutes to do all of the above and begin your work independently. � FIRST � Let’s FIVE Practice!!!
When you are tardy… � Enter silently. � Place excuse in the basket on my desk. � Have a seat and take out your materials.
Getting your attention… � When �I you hear the sound…STOP, LOOK and LISTEN will not speak until everyone is quiet and have their eyes on me. � Let’s practice.
Getting your attention… � Clap one time if you hear me. Clap two times if you hear me. Clap three times if you hear me. By the third clap you should be silent and eyes on me. � Let’s practice. � All eyes on me in 5… 4… 3… 2… 1. � Or I may simply yell, CLASS, LISTEN UP!

Finish classwork early What do I do next? � Grab an Early Finisher � Work on unfinished social studies assignments. � Read your “choice” novel. (our library is awesome!) � Start working on tonight’s homework or extra credit assignment � Teacher approved activity
After an absence… � Go to the missing work bin during bell work time or after class. � Retrieve any handouts or copy the assignments. � Sign your name and date it on the clipboard. � Turn in any notes to the office, and absent work to me in the makeup work tray. Remember, all of this is done within the first five or last five minutes of class.
Turning in papers � Make sure you have the correct heading and give the student sitting in seat 1 your papers. NEVER THROW YOUR PAPER TO ANOTHER STUDENT!!! � The person sitting in seat 1 will Pass the papers to the nearest group. � When you receive the papers, place your stack on top and continue passing the stack to the next group. � Person nearest the turn-it-in-tray will turn in all papers. � ****Let’s classes! practice!! Goal is 20 seconds or less. Lets Beat the other
Classroom Discussions � Everyone MUST Participate. �I want to hear what you have to say but only when it’s your time to speak. � Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. � If your question is off topic, write it down, put it on the parking lot, or simply ask your question later. � ***notify me with any issues (speech or otherwise)
Unfinished Work � Each day, all your unfinished classwork should be taken home unless I tell you otherwise. Unfinished classwork automatically becomes homework. � It should be completed and turned in the next day. (I recommend having a homework folder) � Points taken off will be determined on a case by case basis. � Students who do not complete their work will suffer the consequences.
Moving around the classroom � You must ask permission… use hand signals � Never interrupt instructional time to ask to get up � Exception to the Rule--If you are sick, please run to the nearest garbage can or into the restroom. � Please don’t overreact if you see a bug
Restroom Procedures � DO NOT ask to use the restroom during bell work time. � DO NOT ask to use the restroom when I am in the middle of talking. � ALWAYS get my attention � NEVER leave the room without teacher permission. � You have 2 bathroom passes per quarter from me. Use them wisely. � Sign the log each time you use your pass.
Class Dismissal � The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. � Do not start packing up prior to the bell. Wait until I say “start packing. ” � Clean your area. Straighten your table. Return all of my materials if you borrowed them. � Complete your job. � Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses your table to line up. � We always line up inside of the classroom. � Let’s practice.
Walking in the halls � The silent line starts in the room. � Walk in a single file line starting at the door. � Absolutely No talking. � Keep hands and feet to yourselves � Single File � CONSEQUENCES!! If these rules can not be kept, then we will return and start over. � We are trend-setters, not followers. � SINGLE File!!!!

Words of gratitude goes a long way and they are an important part of working together. � When the intercom comes on, stop talking. � Encourage each other when others are celebrated. � Help each other to follow the rules because then everybody wins. � This is a Safe Space.
Classroom Community � If I am not in the classroom, keep working as though I’m standing right next to you. INTEGRITY � Everyone has their own space to work in. Leave other student’s areas alone, including Mrs. Jeffries’ desk!! � Teasing, making fun of others, and being mean is against the LAW and will not be tolerated. � Look for help and be willing to always help others in need.
