TPACK MODEL LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7 CRISTILYN B. MONGAS

Objectives • Add like and unlike signed numbers (integers) • Effectively manipulate algebraic tiles in the addition of like and unlike integers

• Tell at least one example of a real life scenario in which the addition of integers can be applied to, after watching digital story. • In groups of three, formulate a video tutorial for addition on integers

Characteristics of Students Class comprises of 40 students; 22 boys and 18 girls. Students’ age ranges from 12 -13. Majority of the students can read and know the basic concepts of operations on addition and subtraction. They also enjoy Mathematics and 80% of the class maintains an average above 75% within this subject area. Students are familiar with the basic concepts of operations on addition and subtraction ; however they are not yet able to carry out the task of adding signed numbers (integers).

Instructional Procedures n Content instruction would be presented to the students using Virtual Algebraic tiles using Math-U-See Manipulatives app and Computer-based Digital Story on adding integers. First to be demonstrated are the procedures in using virtual algebraic tiles and students will then solve given problems on signed numbers with the use of these manipulatives on the activity part of the lesson. n The teacher will provide follow-up questions on students’ activity and direct to discussion using PPT Presentation.

Instructional Procedures n Students will also be presented with computer-based digital story on addition of integers and how it is used in real life situations. n The students will now conceptualize 5 real-world problems on addition of integers in groups. They will present their output on the next class session through a video tutorial presentation integrating the use of algebraic tiles or any representations that could illustrate their conceptualize problems to establish higher understanding and mastery in addition of integers. Students’ output will be graded thru rubrics.

Materials, Resources and Technology --Virtual Algebraic Tiles using the Math-U-See Manipulatives app --LCD Projector --Computer-Based Digital Story Assessment Strategies --Students will be assessed on classroom practice thru interactive PPT Presentation and a video tutorial on Adding Integers

Content (C) Pedagogy (P) Technology (T) Adding Integers Inductive Method Cooperative Learning Math-U-See Manipulatives App (Virtual Algebraic Tiles), Computer-based Digital Story, PPT Presentation thru LCD Projector

Content Knowledge (CK) How much do we know about the content being learned and taught? Pedagogical Knowledge (PK) What are the instructional practices, strategies, and methods that promote student learning? Technological Knowledge (TK) What do you know about the technology used in this particular lesson? • Inductive Method • Cooperative Learning • Math-U-See App (Virtual Algebraic Tiles) • Computer. Based Digital Story • PPT Presentation

Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) DEFINE (PCK): • Inductive Method allows the students to discover or explore addition on integers and its rules in the context they are familiar with • Cooperative Learning maximizes their own and each other’s learning in grasping the content from the use of virtual manipulatives—Algebraic Tiles on Math-U-See Manipulatives app and sharing concepts and ideas after watching a digital-based story How do you know that this pedagogy is applicable to the content you are teaching?

Technological Content Knowledge (TCK) Define (TCK) : • Math-U-See Manipulatives (App) are virtual algebraic manipulatives that can provide models as students explore the concepts of adding integers • Computer-based Digital Story supports the content using video representation for a better understanding on adding integers and provides real life examples where addition on integers can be used • Interactive PPT supports mastery of students’ learning on adding integers How do you know that this particular technology is best suited for addressing the content?

Technological Pedagogical Knowledge (TPK) Define (TPK) : Virtual Algebraic Tiles (Math-U-See Manipulatives App), Computer-based Digital Story, and Interactive PPT on Addition of Integers are forms of technology that supports inductive method and cooperative learning. How will this particular technology change the teaching and learning process when it’s used in the classroom?

Describe (TPK): These allow teachers to create authentic and digital activities that are engaging for students. Students work through the scaffolded virtual manipulatives and interactive slides at their own pace while teachers can monitor their progress and help struggling students. This allow students to manipulate and add numbers with like and unlike sign and use its concepts in real life situations.

Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) Define (TPACK) : • Teaching addition on integers through inductive method and cooperative learning using Virtual Algebraic Tiles (Math-U-See App), PPT Presentation, Computer-Based Digital Story creates an interactive and student friendly learning environment What is your basis of teaching this particular content through this pedagogy where you use technology?

Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) Describe (TPACK) : • Students are thinking deeply about the content by manipulating Virtual Algebraic Tiles using Math-USee Manipulatives app and sharing ideas about video representation on addition of integers, and are involved in their learning. This technology, pedagogy, and content combination make the lesson more engaging for the students What is your basis of teaching this particular content through this pedagogy where you use technology?

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!
