The Basics - School of Applied Educational Science and Teacher Education - Offered as a major or minor subject on a wide field of studies - Offers pre-primary, basic and – in the case of Joensuu – also upper secondary school education - Under change because of new syllabus (2016) in primary schools - “The University Teacher training Schools' special mission is to offer teacher students the facilities they need for completing guided training that is part of their pedagogic studies and also to participate in the development of teacher education. ”

The Basics - Class Teachers major in pedagogical studies and incorporate basic studies in two minor subjects (25 ECTS + 25 ECTS) or intermediate studies (60 ECTS) in one minor subject into their degree - Subject teachers minor in them studying usually both basic and intermediate courses - Practice periods in primary school/secondary school

Practice periods - An important part of teacher training - Consists of 4 periods - orientation to teaching practice - comprehensive teaching practice - applied teaching practice - advanced teaching practice

Course Comprehensive Applied Advanced To become familiar with teacher’s occupation in general terms To improve knowledge in designing an effective teachinglearning process To develop self-awareness of one’s own teaching and guidance abilities To further develop own understanding concerning effective teaching and education strategies Info At the end of the course, student possesses more knowledge in: - School as a learning environment - Elements that are involved in a successful teaching-learning process and how can a teacher contribute to it - Growing awareness of being a competent teacher Areas of interest: - How to apply the curriculum in teaching and education - How to prepare, implement and assess own teaching strategies - How to recognize students with different learning styles and levels and how to take them into account in preparing lessons The course can be completed in almost any academy -> Additional goal: to become acquainted with the given school’s practises and environments After completing the course, student is capable of: - Designing the teachinglearning process by means of theoretical theory - Applying the curriculum creatively and effectively - Tackling pedagogical issues using investigative and experimental methods B/M Bachelor’s degree Master’s degree CP 3 5 8 11 Goal Orientation
