Christian Love # 19 Christian Love Bears All Things

One’s relationship to God depends upon his ability to love as God it. I Johndefines 4: 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

John 13: 35 By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.

Ephesians 5: 3 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma. Christian code of conduct requires abstinence from sin, but focuses on how we treat others.

Thus, we study love. . Agape, not m. m. I Corinthians 13: 4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

I. What does it mean to “bear” all things ?

“stegō” is an uncommon verb 1. NIV — Love always protects 2. TBL — If you love someone you will be loyal 3. NLB — Love never gives up 4. NCV — Love patiently accepts all things 5. NASB, ESV, KJV — Love bears all things

The actual meaning of stegō lends itself the or interpretation weto use. 1. to to protect keep by covering, preserve 2. to cover with silence; to keep secret; to hide, conceal: 3. by covering to keep off ( something which threatens ), to bear up against, hold out against, and so to endure, bear, forbear ( Thayer’s Greek Lexicon )

“stegē”is the noun form of stegō it is translated as roof. Mark 2: 4 – Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying

II. What does the Holy Spirit mean by “all things? ”

I Corinthians 13: 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Every offence is the first offence : “love does not take into account a wrong suffered. ” ( Vs– 5 )

“All things” is not necessarily to be taken literally. Hyperbole, from a Greek word meaning "excess, " is a figure of speech that uses extreme exaggeration to make a point or show emphasis.

III. What does wisdom teach about covering over a brother’s faults ?

I Peter 4: 8 Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.

Proverbs 10: 12 Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all transgressions. Proverbs 11: 9 With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered. Proverbs 11: 9 He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets,

Proverbs 17: 9 He who conceals a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends. Proverbs 20: 19 He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets, Therefore do not associate with a gossip.

Proverbs 26: 20 For lack of wood the fire goes out, And where there is no whisperer, contention quiets down. 21 Like charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindle strife. 22 The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts of the body.

IV. What effect does “ “concealing or covering” all things have on one’s life

1. It prevents gossip 2. It discourages volunteering negatives 3. It facilitates spiritual growth 4. It motivates us to protect our brethren 5. It helps us to lift others out of sin 6. It changes our lifetyle

Galatians 6: 1 Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.

James 5: 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
