National updates Model Curriculum The UK Association of Music Education – Music Mark has produced its Music Mark Model Curriculum Consultation paper to inform the Department of Education’s (Df. E) Expert Panel on the development of a Model Music Curriculum. Consultation of resources now due in Autumn

National updates Instrument & Equipment Awards The Foundation has helped over 7, 000 students, schools and teachers improve their access to music through the purchase or upgrade of musical instruments and/or equipment. The Foundation provides grants up to a total of £ 1, 500 towards the purchase of musical instruments and/or equipment for individuals who are in full time education and Schools who require the equipment to improve their music department. Singing Games and Rhymes for All – Workshop with Lucinda Geoghegan 29 th June 2019 10. 30 am -3. 30 pm Meanwood Community Centre The session will consist of Singing Games and Rhymes and how they can be used as a springboard to learning – both holistic development and musical learning. The games will be appropriate for a range of ages and are suitable for all children. The session will be based on the philosophical ideas of the Hungarian composer, Zoltán Kodály who believed that music education was the right of every child and that musical training should begin with singing. Being Curriculum ready Ofsted New Framework https: //www. gov. uk/government/publications/educati on-inspection-framework Changes will move Ofsted’s focus away from headline data to look instead at how schools are achieving these results, and whether they are offering a curriculum that is broad, rich and deep, or simply teaching to the test.

Implementation: • teachers have good knowledge of the subject(s) and courses they teach. Leaders provide effective support for those teaching outside their main areas of expertise • teachers and leaders use assessment well, for example to help learners embed and use knowledge fluently or to check understanding and inform teaching. Leaders understand the limitations of assessment and do not use it in a way that creates unnecessary burdens for staff or learners
