P 5/4 – Monday st 1 June Good morning boys and girls! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the sunshine. I can’t believe that it’s the first day in June already!!! I’ve attached some more activities for you to try today. Remember do only what you can. As I’m in the hub tomorrow, I won’t be able to upload activities so the Media study is to be completed over the two days and make sure you login to Sumdog on Tuesday to practise your maths skills. Pentecost “When Pentecost day came round, they had all met in one room, when suddenly they heard what sounded like a powerful wind from heaven, the noise of which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak foreign languages as the Spirit gave them the gift of speech. ” The Feast of Pentecost brings to an end the Season of Easter and falls 50 days after Easter Sunday. Pentecost celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit. As we heard in the first reading of how the disciples were all together and how they were afraid now that Jesus had left them. On this day they were given the gift of speaking many different languages so that they could travel far and wide to spread the good news.

Pentecost We learn that God is always here for us, we just need to ask him for help if we are afraid, worried or feeling lonely. He will answer our prayer and help us. Especially in these times when we are feeling sad about not seeing our friends and families like we use to. God will be by our sides to guide us through to better times. Above you will see an image of Pentecost. There are important symbols that are associated with Pentecost – we can read about them in the extract above from the Acts of the Apostles. We also saw Father Campbell in his red vestments when watching Mass yesterday.

Pentecost For today’s task I would like you to design your own Pentecost poster incorporating some of the important symbols of Pentecost. E. – Sacrament of First Holy Communion I know some of you were preparing for the sacrament of First Holy Communion and although we are unsure about exactly when this might be; it is important that we still prepare for this very special sacrament. R. E. – Sacrament of First Holy Communion Today I would like you to focus on the story of the Loaves and the Fishes in which Jesus feeds the 5000. Read Matthew 14: 13 -21 and watch this video. Now that you know more about this story I would like you to please complete p 27 and P 28 of your workbook.

Numeracy Please have a go at this chilli challenge. Remember to choose the chilli that you think will challenge you. Try to work out the answer in your head and think about all the strategies we have learned to work out the answer. I wonder which strategy you used? If you solve it using one strategy try using another strategy. The answers are on the slide after the chilli challenge so make sure you don’t go too far ahead until you’re ready! Good luck!

Numeracy Today I would like you to add and subtract within money. If you click on the link here this will help you understand more about this. There are two videos for you to watch too. Now I want you to try some challenge cards. I have uploaded these onto the blog for you. I want you to try the level that will challenge you. You can try 1 star *, 2 stars** or 3 stars***. Remember the answers are at the end so no peeking!

Spelling Today I would like you to write your words out x 3 and then pick 5 words and the spelling strategy that will help you to remember how to spell those words. I have included some spelling strategies on the next slide to help you. Red Group – Aberdeen, birthday, country, five, huge, aeroplane, biscuit, cousin, floor, idea. Green group – lamb, comb, climb, thumb, crumb, knee, knew, knife, knit, knock. Purple group – I would like you to think about the phoneme nk. Your words are: bank, sank, tank, ink, pink, sink, bunk, sunk. I would like you to write out your words with how many sounds each word has. Remember to use your spelling fingers!

Some Spelling Strategies to help Syllabification – Break the word into syllables e. g. September = Sep, tem, ber Words within Words – Find a word within the word to help you remember e. g. match = mat Compound Word – this is when two or more words make up the word e. g. snowman = snow + man Analogy – Use words that you already know to help e. g. if you know would then learn should, could etc…

Media Study Today I thought that I would do something a little different. Had we been in school this last term then we would have looked at a media study. A media study is simply when you look at a trailer or part of a film/advert etc and use your reading strategies to help study it in detail. Today your media study is going to focus on Toy Story 4. Don’t worry if you’ve not seen it or if you have! There is a link to watch the trailer and it is the trailer that is the focus of the study not the film. Try your best and use the knowledge you have of the reading strategies to help you. Remember there’s enough work here for you today and tomorrow.

Learning Intention: To evaluate and analyse an aspect of media. Success Criteria: • Watch and listen to the clip. • Take notes about the different aspects of film. • Use notes to answer the questions about the different aspects of film. • Show understanding of the aspects of film through notes and answers.

Prior Knowledge What do you know about the characters? What do you know about anything relating to Toy Story?

Storyline- take notes during the trailer and answer the questions. • From the trailer what do you think the story is going to be about? (Try not to think about the actual film) • From the trailer do you know what happens at the beginning and at the end of the film? How do you know this? • What type/genre of film do you think this is? What parts of the trailer make you think this?

Setting- take notes during the trailer and answer the questions. • Where are the main settings that are shown in the trailer? (Try not to think about the film and focus on the trailer). • From the trailer can you identify the main setting of the film? Why do you think this? • Describe the main setting you have identified in the trailer. What does it look like? What can you see? What colours, lighting etc is there?

Character- after watching the trailer, answer the questions using any notes and what you have watched. • Who do you see as being the main character(s) within this trailer? Do not name everyone you see you are only looking for the main ones. • Are there any characters that have changed in their personality/appearance since the other films? • Describe in some detail the new character’s appearance and personality that is shown in the trailer.

HWB Over the weekend hopefully we were all able to go visit a member of our family! This has been something we have taken for granted all of our lives (as we probably did this every weekend or more). From Friday onward this has been a very special time for many. Hopefully your family don’t live too far away and you have been able to spend some time with them. It must have been a great feeling to spend time, in our gardens, with loved ones. How it has lifted all our spirits and given us such a positive boost. If you were able to visit someone you have not seen during Lockdown you will know this feeling. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer until we can see all of our family.

Today is also a new month/season JUNE begins our three months of SUMMER, can you believe it!! This too should make us feel more positive as hopefully we have lovely weather.

HWB How positive did this little visit have on us. Being positive makes our world a better place and after all the changes that have happened over the last few months, we will begin to see a brighter, happier, and more POSITIVE future ahead. I would like you to take the word POSITIVE and write an acrostic poem. (Remember you take the word POSITIVE and in large letters you write it down the left-hand side of your page and then write a word/sentence that begins with each letter of POSITIVE).
