NGN v Next Generation Network (NGN) is a service oriented network. v Through the separation of service and call control, the service- independent architecture is implemented, which makes services independent of switching network. v NGN provides integration of voice, data, fax, and video services. 1

SOFT SWITCH (SOFTX 3000) v As a Soft. Switch product, Soft. X 3000 is located at the core control layer of NGN scheme. v Soft. X 3000 acts as a generic Call Controller in the packet-switched network, supports the interworking between PSTN, H. 323, SIP, and MGCP domains. v Soft. X 3000 provides H. 248 and MGCP based bearer control. v In the NGN solution of Huawei, Soft. X 3000 acts as the core of NGN, interworking with other NGN components through the open network adopting distributed standard protocols. 7

UMG 89000 (Cont’d) • • • UMG 8900 serves as TG or AG in NGN or as the traditional PSTN switch and the next-generation switch. In NGN, UMG 8900 is applied in the gateway exchange and toll exchange as large-capacity TG. Through the combined networking with soft switching device , UMG 8900 can provide next-generation TDM switch application. MG 8900 can act as tandem exchange / toll office / gateway exchange / C 5 networking application of PSTN to implement the seamless evolution to NGN. Provides AG function of large capacity via RSP user frame of UMG 8900 accesses user directly. 14

Ongoing Issues • NGN status is currently under PAT • PAT of Softx 3000, UMG 8900, SG 7000 & MRS has been completed. Discrepancy list comprising of Non Service affecting & some deficient features has already been forwarded to the vendor through Dig Dev wing. • Connectivity with some UMG’s is still pending due to Media/hardware unavailability at the far end (LX side). • Extension of NGN NMS room is required. Several civil works need to be done. 22
