This week, we are looking at adding a suffix to root words. . . -ous For example: root word suffix joy + -ous joyous poison + -ous poisonous mountain + -ous mountainous What happens to the root word when the suffix –ous is added to it in these words? Nothing! The suffix –ous is added straight onto these root words.
