GLOSSOP PARISH CHURCH OF ALL SAINTS A service for Pentecost 31 st May 2020

Gathering to worship God Let us worship God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Alleluia. Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia. Lord, direct our thoughts, teach us to pray, lift our hearts to worship you in spirit and in truth, through Jesus Christ.

Saying sorry to God our Father, we come to you in sorrow: For the mean thoughts we have had, forgive us and help us. For the hurtful words we have said, forgive us and help us. For the wrong things we have done, forgive us and help us.

Hearing the Word of God

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability. Acts 2. 1 -4

Responding to the Word of God • I wonder what gives us the power to tell of God’s love. • I wonder how it felt on that first Pentecost Sunday. • I wonder what the crowds thought about what the disciples were saying. • I wonder what you want to say to God right now.

Praying to God We pray for God’s grace, saying: Lord, receive our praise and hear our prayer. We pray that Christ’s followers everywhere may continue to tell God’s story. We pray that the leaders of governments and countries may rule with wisdom and love. We pray that peace and reconciliation may fill the hearts and lives of all people. We pray that the sick may find comfort and hope in God’s love.

Collect Holy Spirit, sent by the Father, ignite in us your holy fire; strengthen your children with the gift of faith, revive your Church with the breath of love, and renew the face of the earth, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name; your kingdom come, your will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.
