All Saints Day • In the Catholic Church All Saints’ Day is celebrated in honor of all Christians who died and are resting in heaven. It’s celebrated annually on November 1.
Celebrating All Saints’ Day in Poland • All Saints’ Day in Poland might be considered as a sad day by many foreigners, in comparison with the United States where they celebrate Halloween. It’s not true because the All Saints’ Day in Poland is a day when families are together, there is the possibility to spend time with the ones you love knowing that tomorrow you might not be in this world anymore. This day is one of the best Polish tradition. Families gather at homes to eat dinner and remember those who died.
It ‘s Polish Tradition On the 1 November people in Poland go to church to pray for dead people’s souls. They also bring candles and put them on graves, which are symbols of remembrance of the dead people. Some people also make sacrifices to the so-called gifts, writing the names of the dead on the cards, asking the whole Church to pray for them.
All Souls’ Day All Souls' Day is a liturgical celebration in churches dedicated to the deceased. combined with the celebration of All Saints that preceded it. All Souls' Day coincides with folk celebrations in honor of the dead. The date of this holiday is November 2 The tradition of All Souls' Day is associated with many folk customs and beliefs. For example, in eastern Poland, sacrificial ceremonies were held during which the death was commemorated, which probably inspired Adam Mickiewicz in Dziady. During All Souls' Day in Poland, people visit cemeteries, decorate graves and light candles on them. This custom is related to the pre-Christian rite of lighting fires on graves.
