Francesco Trevisani, pintor italiano, nasceu em Capodistria, em 9 de abril de 1656. Foi aluno de Antonio Zanchi em Veneza, mas passou a viver em Roma em 1678, onde sua carreira se desenvolveu. O seu mentor era o cardeal veneziano Pietro Ottoboni, sobrinho do Papa Alexandre VIII, um dos mais prestigiados mecenas da época. Autoritratto Em Roma Trevisani tornou-se um dos mais importantes artistas que sofreram influência de Carlo Maratta, como é evidente nos afrescos da “Capela de Santa Chiara” em “San Silvestro in Capite”, e nas três pinturas com a “História da Paixão de Cristo” na “Capela da Crucificação” da mesma igreja; nos estudos para os mosaicos da capela batismal da “Basílica de São Pedro”; com o profeta Baruch para a “Basílica de São João de Latrão ”; na pala com a “Morte de S. José” na “Capela Sacripante” em Santo Inácio; no “Êxtase de S. Francisco” na igreja dos “Santíssimos Estigmas” e no “Festim de Cleópatra” da “Galeria Spada”. Ele é também o autor da grande tela do altar-mor da “Basílica de Mafra”, em Portugal.

Biography: Francesco Trevisani was an Italian painter, born in Koper, on April 9, 1656.

Biography: Francesco Trevisani was an Italian painter, born in Koper, on April 9, 1656. He was a pupil to Antonio Zanchi in Venice, but moved to Rome in 1678, where his career developed. His mentor was the Venetian Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni, nephew of Pope Alexandre VIII, one of the most distinguished patrons of the time. In Rome, Trevisani became one of the most important artists who worked under the influence of Carlo Maratta, as is evident in the frescoes at the "”Chapel of Santa Chiara” in “San Silvestro in Capite”, and in the three pictures with the “History of the Passion of the Christ"” in the “Chapel of Crucification”, in the same church; in the studies for the mosaics of the baptismal chapel of the “Basilica of St. Peter”; with the prophet Baruch to the “Basilica of St. John Lateran”; on the pall with the “Death of St. Joseph” in the “Chapel Sacripante” in St. Ignatius; in the “Ecstazy of St. Francis” in the church of “The Most Holy Stigmata” and in the “Feast of Cleopatra” of the “Spada Gallery”.
