OBJECTIVES (EAGLES) ØAim to encourage students in every school to strive to excel in all non-academic areas Ø To recognise students' leadership qualities, service to community and school, and excellence in non-academic activities. ØThe school will identify and select students who meet MOE's 1 st tier base-line criteria and the school-based 2 nd tier criteria. ØRefer to attached document for nomination criteria. 2

EAGLES st (1 Tier criteria) 1. Must be a Singapore Citizen (Permanent Residents do

EAGLES st (1 Tier criteria) 1. Must be a Singapore Citizen (Permanent Residents do not qualify). 2. Has passed the school examinations: S 1 -3 Overall Exam or S 4/5 Preliminary Exam. 3. Attained a overall conduct grade of at least “GOOD”. 4. Regular CCA attendance of at least 75% for the year. 5. Met the minimum criteria for awards in Leadership, Achievement or Service respectively : Ø For awards in Leadership, students have assumed leadership appointments in core activities recognised by MOE; Ø For awards in Achievement, students have represented their schools in competitions, exhibitions, conferences or performances recognised by MOE; ØFor awards in Service, students have rendered to the school or the community and completed a minimum number of hours and/or projects of service to the school. Note : 2 nd tier selection criteria will be followed up by HOD CCA/PE with the respective CCA teachers. 3

Background (ECHA) MOE introduced the Edusave Character Award (ECHA) in 2012 to enable schools to recognise students who demonstrate exemplary character and outstanding personal qualities through their behaviour and actions. Objective(s): ØTo send a clear and strong signal of the importance that MOE places on character and values, on par with achievements in the academic domain; and ØTo recognise outstanding students in each school who are exemplary in character, and who can be role models to inspire others. 4

Eligibility Criteria (ECHA) Ø Singaporean Ø Demonstrate good character and values. Students may be identified for demonstrating the following types of qualities: a) Values and/or character traits that the school wishes to recognise or encourage, E. g. : School Values I am a Lifelong Learner. I seize every opportunity to learn. I have Integrity. I honour my words and actions. I am Gracious. I accord others respect and care. I believe in High Expectations. I will do my best in every task assigned. I believe in Teamwork. I can take the lead and also be a team-player. I possess Self-discipline. I set my mind on what I want to achieve and will get it done. 5

These would be students who have persevered despite facing difficult circumstances (e. g. financial problems, family issues, health issues etc. ), c) A high level of civic responsibility. These would be students who are concerned about issues in the community or issues faced by others, initiating action to address these issues to improve the lives of others, and being committed to make a positive differences. 6

Guiding Principle for school-based criteria (ECHA) Schools should bear in mind the following guiding principles in formulating a set of school-based nomination criteria and selection process for the ECHA: a) The ECHA should be used to recognise students with consistent and exemplary behaviour and who would serve as a role model to others; < Overall : conduct grade VG & Excellent> b) The selection criteria and process should be rigorous, robust and fair and communicated to key stakeholders. <awards and recognition system policy (SEA Award)> 7

School Based Nomination (ECHA) ØThe nominee must have obtained at least a pass in

School Based Nomination (ECHA) ØThe nominee must have obtained at least a pass in academic performance (Overall MYE). * ØThe nominee must have conduct grade of at least “very good”. Ø All ECHA awardees should have received SEA Awards in previous year or current year. *Students with weak academic results may be nominated provided the weak academic results are not due to negative character traits but are attributed to difficulties that go beyond the control of the student. This should be exception than norm. 8

Selection Process (ECHA & EAGLES) Nomination for ECHA & EAGLES List of Singaporeans with conduct grade & SEA Award data will be shared to all staff to nominate students who meet the criteria. <Minimum number of nomination per class for ECHA is 2 students> Shortlist by SDT (HOD SM, AYH, HOD CCE & HOD CCA) – ECHA & EAGLES SDT team to shortlist the students nominated based on the guidelines. Submission of write up (ECHA & EAGLES) FTs & CCA teachers to provide a short write-up of shortlisted students. 11
