COVID-19 UPDATES • Face coverings will continue to be recommended (not mandatory) when indoors for both staff and students • In person learning only option for Magnet • No Simultaneous teaching • Social distancing practices, to the extent possible, will continue while also ensuring collaboration in classrooms and throughout all district buildings. Schools and district offices will use 3‐ 6 feet as a guide for social distancing
ITEM #1 CWMP Program standards and contract:
PHILOSOPHY The CWMP will prepare students to function effectively by offering a balanced academic and career oriented education.
RATIONALE The Center for Wellness and Medical Professions is designed to prepare students for their place in the ever changing world they will inherit. You will exit the program with a strong background in medical technology, pathophysiology, and numerous hands on experiences that culminate in clinicals in their chosen field.
PROGRAM EXPECTATION Students are expected to abide by the Pinellas County policies and procedures and the Pinellas County Code of Student Conduct. It is considered a privilege to attend a magnet program
ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS Current Freshman Will need to maintain a minimum of 2. 0 GPA each semester; this is not a cumulative GPA but based on each semester Current Sophomores Will need to maintain a minimum of 2. 3 GPA each semester; this is not a cumulative GPA but based on each semester Current Juniors/Seniors Will need to maintain a minimum of 2. 5 GPA each semester; this is not a cumulative GPA but based on each semester
If you fall below a minimum GPA requirement you will be placed on academic probation which will last till the end of the next semester. A notification letter will be sent home to parents explaining the probation process. A student who does not conform to these academic standards after the probation period will be presented to the exit committee for removal from the program
BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS/ CONSEQUENCES Membership in CWMP is a privilege; in order to remain in the program students are held to a higher disciplinary standard. A student may be placed on disciplinary probation for repeated or serious disciplinary infractions. Severe infractions can result in an immediate referral to administration and possible removal from the program
REMOVAL FROM THE PROGRAM Upon a decision to remove a student from CWMP the student shall contact student assignment for his/her new school assignment Appeal: 1. Assistant Principal 2. Program appeal committee. The decision of the committee will be considered final
ITEM #2 COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS See attachment: Medical Volunteer Log sheet & Instructions (yellow sheet) ***Can also be found on-line Bright Futures must be approved in advance and paperwork and Instructions can be found on the PHUHS website under Resources then School Counselors then Bright Futures. Medical does not have to be approved in advance and paperwork and instructions are in the attachment. Medical is considered non paid working with children, animals and elderly. Vet, Dentist, Bloodwork, Doctors office, Sports camp, etc.
COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS • All volunteer paperwork (both Medical and Bright Futures) is to be turned in to Mrs. Coffers by May of Senior year. • All Medical Magnet students must volunteer 200 total hours • Incoming 9 th grade approvals this summer will be done by Mrs. Brooke Pair (pairb@pcsb. org)
ITEM #3 HONOR CODE This communicates the expectations of membership in our program (PINK sheet) ALL STUDENTS MUST RETURN A SIGNED HONOR CODE EACH SCHOOL YEAR
DUE DATE All forms can be returned to Ms. Morse, Mrs. Pate, Mr. Keefe or Mrs. Zuelke no later than September 7 th. This includes your required Honor Code.
3 TRACKS OF MEDICAL 1. Straight Track (4 year program) 2. Biomedical (3 year program) 3. Pharmacy Tech (4 year program) Once you have made it in the lottery then it is a separate application for Biomedical and Pharmacy Tech requiring a 3. 0 GPA and nothing below passing scores on FSA or Standardized testing and grades of B or higher in Math and Science

STRAIGHT TRACK MEDICAL PROGRAM • Seniors: Certification Class ( ACSM) Health Fitness Certifications • ACSM Certified Personal Trainer® (CPT) -- Certified Personal Trainers develop and implement safe, effective exercise programs to help healthy individuals accomplish their fitness goals. • Average yearly salary is based on clients and working environment: $30, 000 -$70, 000

PROJECT LEAD THE WAY • Comprehensive approach to STEM education • Activity-, project- and problem-based curriculum • Students apply what they know, identify problems, find unique solutions & lead their own learning • Students learn critical & creative thinking • Students learn how to communicate & collaborate • Innovation, engagement & empowerment are facilitated in learning modules
PROGRAM OVERVIEW: BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE • Students investigate roles of biomedical professionals as they study concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology & public health • Students engage in activities to learn content in the context of real-world cases • Students examine structures & interaction of human body systems & explore prevention, diagnosis & treatment of disease • Students work collaboratively to understand & design solutions to pressing health challenges of today & the future
BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE CURRICULUM • Year 1: Principles of Biomedical Science • Year 2: Human Body Systems • Year 3: Medical Interventions • Year 4: Biomedical Innovation (Capstone Course)
BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE CERTIFICATION • Biotechnician Assistant Credentialing Exam (BACE) – Taken at the conclusion of the 3 rd course (Medical Interventions) – Students earn an industry recognized Biotechnician Assistant Certification Average yearly salary $35, 000
PHARMACY TECH • • Pharmacy Tech 4 year program (7 classes) Freshman -1 class Sophomore, Junior, Senior- 2 classes Graduate with a Pharmacy Tech certification Salary $ 30, 000 - $40, 000 a year Most places like CVS and Walgreens will also help train and pay for their pharmacy techs to get their pharmacy license
PICK ONE OF THREE PROGRAMS • All students are automatically placed into the straight track program unless you asked for Biomed or Pharmacy. After seeing this presentation if you would like to switch your program please email Ms. Dupee by June 14 th so we can update your schedule.
REQUIREMENTS OF PROGRAM COMPLETION • Take and Pass each semester Medical Class – 3 years for Biomed – 4 years for Traditional Medical and Pharmacy • Volunteer hours (200 no matter if you want Bright Futures or not) • GPA (2. 5) • Sit for certification exam

BUS ASSIGNMENTS • Students will be receiving a card in the mail with their bus number, stops, and times • Students won’t be denied boarding without a bus card during the first week • Students in magnet programs not in the PHUHS zone will use arterial busing which has specific stops.
