PURPOSE OF THE CODE �Serve as guide for the ethical standards �Provide self and peer evaluations �Inform parents, students, and community of the expected behaviors

EXPLICIT CORE VALUES/PRINCIPLES � LEAST HARM-Understand that professional distance with students is appropriate, and any sexual relationship whether legal or not it is prohibited. � CONFIDENTIALITY AND PRIVACY-Recognize the vulnerability of confidentiality in electronic communications. Only transmit sensible information in a way that it is untraceable.

IMPLICIT CORE VALUES/PRINCIPLES TRUTHFULNESS AND FULL DISCLOSURE-Counselors have the responsibility to let the students know how the program is going to go either by verbally, presentation, or any form to inform what is being done at all times. � DIGNITY & WORTH OF THE PERSON-Counselors need to treat peers and students with respect. � COMPETENCE Counselors have to find a way to terminate the program when counseling is no longer needed. �

OBLIGATORY � Governing how mental health professionals behave due to the fact that they are in possession of very private and personal information pertaining to their clients life stories and or mental health statuses. � “Recognize that their primary obligation for confidentiality is to the students, but balance that understanding with an understanding of the parents/guardians legal and inherent rights to be the guiding voice in their children’s lives especially in value laden issues. ”

ASCA Vs. Human Services � ASCA: members can share information with a third person who is at high risk of contracting communicable or fatal diseases. � Human Services: If it is expected that danger or harm occurs to others due to the client’s behavior, members must act immediately to protect the safety of those individuals.

ASCA Vs. ACA � ASCA: When a student poses danger to self or others, members must consult with other counseling professionals first and then inform the appropriate authorities. � ACA: Counselors have the option to break or not break confidentiality regarding terminally ill patients that want death to come quickly.

SUGGESTED CHANGES � Counselors should provide more options to the students that are dealing with suicide ideations. � More information on the causes and effects of cyberbullying in young children due to the increase in technology. � Standard of correct ratio to provide adequate services.
