The G 4 Alliance: Achievements and Milestones 2016 Generated 1000+ commitments to surgery from country representatives, UN and WHO representatives, civil society leadership and the private sector Continued the Global Consultative Process, focusing on key advocacy messages, national goals, targets and indicators, international standards and guidelines, an operative case log data platform, and a platform to track partnerships and synergies. 2017 Publication of a joint manuscript in the World Journal of Surgery, announcing 15 consensus global surgery indicators and a global target of access to safe surgery for 80% of the world by 2030. Approval of an amendment calling for the WHO Director General to report on surgical & anaesthesia care progress every 2 years until 2030 . Support for the launch of the drafting of a national surgical obstetric and anaesthesia plan in Tanzania in collaboration with partners and external stakeholders. 9

Led an Implementation Showcase at the WHO workshop on Surgical Care Planning in the Eastern Mediterranean and African Regions, featuring G 4 Members and Partners who shared examples of collaborations supporting national surgical planning and implementation. 1 0

End poverty in all its forms everywhere Improved access to high quality, timely, safe surgical, obstetric, trauma and anesthesia care directly contributes to preventing individuals from falling into extreme poverty as a result of: • high out-of-pocket costs from surgical treatment • lack of educational and work opportunities for children born with debilitating congenital deformities • inability to work due to debilitating neglected surgical conditions such as neglected fractures, hernias, and benign and advanced tumors • profound isolation and social ostracization from obstetric fistula due to lack of access to emergency cesarean section 1 4
