What does it mean to be a Title I School? • Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding to supplement the school’s existing programs. These dollars are used for… • Identifying students experiencing academic difficulties and providing timely assistance to help these student’s meet the State’s challenging content standards • Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies • Conducting parental Involvement meetings/trainings/activities • Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers

Our goals are… Goals of Elmont Title I Program • to increase academic achievement • to provide direct instructional support to students • to provide professional development for teachers • to promote parent education and involvement

What is the Title I 1% set-aside and how are parents involved? Any District

What is the Title I 1% set-aside and how are parents involved? Any District with a Title I Allocation exceeding $500, 000 is required by law to set aside 1% of its Title I allocation for parent and family engagement. Of that up to 5% may be reserved at the District for district-wide initiatives related to parent and family engagement. The remaining 95% must be allocated to all Title I schools in the District. The District and School Title I Parent and Family Engagement consult and collaborate with their school Title I Parent and Family Engagement Committee throughout the year. Title I Parent and Family Engagement Committees, have the right to be involved in how the parent and family engagement Allocation is spent.

The Parent and Family Engagement Policy (PFEP) • The plan states how the school will promote the parent and family engagement. The PFEP Policy is required by Every Student Succeeds Act. The PFEP components states: • How parents can be involved in decision-making and activities • How parent and family engagement funds may be used • How information and training will be provided to parents • How the school will build capacity in parents and staff for strong parental and family engagement. • Title I parents, have the right to be involved in the development of Parent and Family Engagement Policy

Highly Qualified Teachers and Administrators Title I Parents, have the right to request the qualifications of your child’s teachers. • All Elmont schools are staffed by Highly Qualified teachers and administrators • All schools are currently in Good Standing. • District notification sent to parents regarding teachers not meeting ESSA requirements for Highly Qualified • How parents are notified? • The Parent Right to Know Letter is posted on the Elmont School District Home page.
