Bawdsey Manor PGL
Bawdsey Manor, Bawdsey, Woodbridge, Suffolk
The Journey Departure time will be on Friday 25 th June around 12: 00 pm, we hope to arrive at Bawdsey around 3 pm Your child should arrive at school between 11. 00 am and 11. 15 am. If you need to drop your child off earlier, please speak inform us. Please ensure your child has a good breakfast before departure. Your child will need a pack lunch for the journey, which they will eat at a service station. If your child suffers from travel sickness please make sure they have taken travel sickness tablets and ensure that they have tablets for the return journey. (See medical letter).
On the coach Your child may bring snacks and drink for the journey. They may bring books/comics, cards, travel games and i. Pads etc, to play on the coach. Portable games consoles may be brought on the trip. We will take these off the children when we arrive and give them back when we leave (please ensure they are fully charged). No mobile phones allowed. Any i. Pad devices which have 4 G data will not be allowed. All devices will need to be on airplane mode.
Return Journey • We intend to leave Bawdsey around 2: 00 pm on Monday 28 th June and we expect to return to school at around 5. 00 pm. • We will keep in close contact with the school at all times; a group call will be sent out when we are half way through our journey back. • Please be aware there is no school for Year 6 on Tuesday 29 th June.
Spending Money Your child may bring up to £ 10 to spend (please ensure that the money is in £ 1 coins). There is a small shop at Bawdsey that sells snacks and souvenirs. We will provide a money bag for each child and we will keep them in a secure place during our stay. The children will be able to visit the shop once a day. Children will have control over their own spending, but will be advised not to squander the lot in one day!
Medicine • If your child needs any medication, including creams, we must have a signed letter of permission from you to your child’s teacher, giving clear dosage and instructions, even if your child can administer their medication themselves. • This includes sickness tablets and we do suggest that you provide travel sickness tablets, if your child suffers from motion sickness. • On the journey to PGL, please give your child their travel sickness tablets before they arrive at school. We will then give your child their travel sickness tablet for the journey home. • We will have a supply of calpol and piriton, which we can administer to children when necessary, provided we have a letter from you (see medical letter).
Medicine • Asthma sufferers need to bring two in date, full pumps. They do not need to have a letter of permission. Epipen users also need two Epipens. One will be kept by the class teacher and the other by the child. • Medicines should be bought into school by Friday 18 th June and given to the class teacher in a clear named plastic wallet. Any allergies (inc. food and drugs, etc) should be communicated in writing to the class teacher please.
Food and snacks Children will be given three hot meals a day and there is always a wide choice of things to eat in the canteen. Children are welcome to bring some small snacks in their suitcase, but please note there will not be a fridge for them to store them in. We would also like to remind parents that all snacks should be nut -free. Also, in our experience, pupils tend to appreciate some savoury (maybe even healthy!) snacks!
Luggage Please note only one suitcase and one backpack/hand luggage is allowed – the coach will not accommodate more than that! Children are also allowed to bring a pillow; this can be bought onto the coach with them and used for the journey. Pupils do not need to bring sheets or other bedding.
Clothing- a guide Warm nightwear Several changes of underwear Fleeces/jumpers Tracksuit bottoms – preferably not the ones made from heavy material • At least 2 pairs of trainers/ hiking or walking boots (no wellies) • T-shirts/long sleeved tops • Plenty of socks • • • Waterproof jacket • Hat/sun cream • Wash bag • Towel x 2 • Black bag for wet clothes • Torch • A disposable camera (optional) • A water bottle to drink from at night
Additional Information We will be in contact with the school each day and there will be updates posted on twitter to let you know about each day’s events. Please be aware that we cannot take responsibility for any valuables and we don’t recommend that pupils bring any items of sentimental value. A labelled disposable camera is a good idea. Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle, which can be refilled during the day and before evening activities.
Contingency Plan if restrictions are in place • If it looks like we still have restrictions, we will inform you as soon as possible with our contingency plan. • We will ask that you please administer two lateral flow tests on Monday and Thursday prior to our trip on Friday. • We will seek permission to administer a lateral flow while we are there, if your child presents symptoms. If the test is positive, we will take your child to get a PCR test. • If this test is positive, then the child will be isolated until they can be collected. Any child who has been in close contact with the child will also need to isolate and be collected by a parent. • There is a possibility children will need to bring face coverings (unless exempt), as PGL’s risk assessment indicates the possible requirement of face coverings for aged 11 and over in communal areas. We also may be required to wear face coverings on the coach.
If you have any other concerns, or need to speak to us in confidence, please email us and we will ring you. Many thanks, Alison, Aileen and James Click on the link below for a tour of Bawdsey Manor https: //www. pgl. co. uk/en-gb/school-trips/primary-schools/centres/bawdsey-manor
