Grading Gr. 1 -5 Grading System: The grading system for Gr. 1 -5 elementary students is based on three categories of tasks, each with a different total weighting of the final grade. The description of the system is as follows: • Category 1 (Practice = 15% of the grade): Daily class practice, spelling tests, etc. • Category 2 (Formative Assessment = 55% of the grade): Assessment over increments of time to determine concept acquisition. • Category 3 (Summative Assessment = 30% of the grade): Assessment to determine mastery of skills through spiral review (i. e. , covering a longer period of time, multiple benchmarks, and/or a higher level of complexity/ performance). A minimum of two summative assessments are required.

Assessments Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) To assist teachers in determining which students should be placed on a PMP (Pupil Monitoring Plan) and when/how to adjust instruction based on student progress, MAP will be administered to 1 st grade students. MAP, aligned to state standards, was designed to: • Evaluate progress towards end-of-year benchmarks • Diagnose learning needs • Set instructional goals • Monitor student growth/instructional progress MAP is administered three times a year. Progress monitoring occurs at frequent intervals and will be used to differentiate instruction. The MAP assessment will also assist teachers in supporting students at all tiers in MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports ) process. Accelerated Reader is a computer-based program currently used at Eglin Elementary. A. R. does not replace other reading instruction, but serves to enhance instruction by strengthening student reading performance and critical thinking skills. It is not part of their reading grade. The books are leveled by reading ability and available in the library. The A. R. program requires a new level of independence from your child. The student will have a reading log to maintain and one or two A. R. books. Responsibilities you can help your child learn to manage are listed below: 1. Remember the books and logs go home daily. 2. Make sure you sign the log and remind your child to bring the log and book to school. 3. Both book and log must be returned to class everyday even if the book is not finished. We have a time set aside for A. R. reading. 4. No student will test unless the log is at school and filled out correctly. AR Home Connect (There is a section where you will record the following information: dates, titles, book level, parent signature/initials)
