How Year 5 are staying safe. We wash and sanitise hands as soon as we get to school (destination washing) and at regular intervals throughout the day and before eating snacks and lunch. We stay in our bubble and do not mix with other bubbles, including at lunchtime. Classrooms are cleaned at lunch and at the end of each day. This includes, tables, chairs and any resources used. Toilets are cleaned twice daily. All door handles are cleaned x 3. Lessons have been taught on social distancing and personal hygiene & will be regularly referred to. Self-regulation is through an emotions chart so we know how pupils are feeling at the start of each day and who may need additional support to settle and feel safe.

Things to know Personalised homework will be set on google classroom every Friday and due in on Monday. DO NOT BRING IN COMPLETED HOMEWORK! This is to minimise risk of transferring infections between home and school. Spellings will also be uploaded on Fridays and will be quizzed on the following Friday. Please, please support your child to read every night. For a child to really excel at reading and writing they need to read regularly. Books will be handed out on Fridays. Due to COVID-19, when they are returned we will put them in bags and isolate them for a week before returning to bookshelf.

Reciprocal Reading & English In year 5, children complete daily reciprocal reading lessons where we work as a class and individually to understand the meaning of a wide-variety of texts. We will also have a class novel which will be used for some reciprocal reading sessions as well as reading for pleasure. The children will have daily GPS (grammar, punctuation and spelling) lessons with the specific areas that we study directly related to an upcoming or current piece of writing. The children will complete several pieces of writing over the term each of which will relate directly to our current topic.
